I had Vista ultimate edition already installed on my pc which i got from a friend of a friend it was fine but after about 5 months it started to get malware and lots of error and slowing down, my norton subscription ran out and i didnt notice for a week, so i borrowed a vista of my friend who doesnt use is, he uses mac, and installed it but noticed my HDD space went from 170gb free to 140gb free, then i did some snoopin gon google etc and found out that when you install vista on top of vista the old version stays there so i want to erase my hard drive completely, and then put vista back o it using the one i bought last week, so what is the best software to do so, and i have a money no option thing cos this is really important cos my work depends on it :-)

thanks in advance

When you install Vista, you have the 'disk option' where you delete the old partition, and once done, Vista will recreate the partition during install, hence a fresh clean HDD install./

If you don't want to spend any money then install windows XP from scratch. Then load vista. Even better if you don't have Win XP CD then download a Linux OS install up to where it formats your Hard Drive, when formatting finished then just replace Linux CD with Vista DVD and reboot.

But I am sure you can install Vista from scratch as well, I can't anything for sure as I have not installed one yet - but I am sure you can format your HDD using vista installation - I hope someone can clear this up.

You're probably breaking the law using a "borrowed" copy of Vista. You should purchase your own licence - thats how Microsoft work - you buy their licences. Plus, if its an OEM licence it is limited for use only on the hardware it can installed on - it can't be transferred.

Once you have your proper, legal licence to use Vista, just format and reinstall by booting from the media.

u can do onething. Insert the Vista installation cd in the cd drive, reboot the machine, go to BIOS setup and change ur first boot device to CD drive. Save changes and install vista.

Hi, u can download a program called kill disk. Just search for it on yahoo. You could also visit ur hard disk manufacturer's website and download their diagnostic tools to erase all data on ur hard disk. This way ur disk will be completely clean and u will need to recreate all ur partitions and then continue installing Vista.
Good Luck!
