The whole "ladies first" thing. Is it overrated?

I would like to think that chivalry has given way to equality and mutual respect. That being said, I do still open doors for women. I am a product of my upbringing.

Ladies first? hahahahaha!
What does this "chivalry" help for? I would love to see such things as "ladies first" in career opportunities...
How many European countries did have a political female leadership??? Very few...
And in USA? Do you think that there will be some day a female president???
So much for ladies first... (As being the so-called "First lady" doesn´t compensate at all!)

I believe in politeness and deference. I will hold a door for a male or female, one older than me or younger. I just try to treat people nicely. And I do, as long as they reciprocate by being polite and nice to me. If they ever stop, then I notch back my effort a bit on them. I don't become rude. But the whole point of politeness and manners is to make the world a happier place. And that has to start with me. I wouldn't be happy holding the door for someone who openly disrespects me or gossips about me behind my back.

No. And despite some who are uncomfortable with it, I think it shows some respect fot the ladies. My mother brought me up to open a door for a woman, and I'm probably always going to do that, whether or not its politically correct.

Good manners never hurt anyone, I think both ladies and gents should be polite and courteous to each other, and that people in general need to remember to say "Thank you" when someone holds a door open for them, if people don't at least acknowledge me when I've held the door for them I always shout after them "You're welcome!!"

I think chivalry should exist for everyone, everyone should treeat each other that well, not just men treating women in a chivalrous way, but women too, everyone.

Plus it's nice when someone does something nice for you.

yes sir, no mam holding doors standing when someone above you male or female enters the room, it is all respect and will help you greatly(that girl before me, he can't say she would rather a nice polite man than one who treats her like crap!)
