don't do that mistake. my computer is core 2 duo processor, 2gb ram on an hp machine, with all the latest feature possible. i have win vista home premium, and it sucks. after i installed norton internet security 2008, my average initial boot time has been 7-10 mins. when the norton start running the full system scan, then i can forget about my computer and instead watch tv for next 2-3hrs.

Not enough memory... 740Mb? Not sure how you get to 740Mb, but you need over 1Gb.

P4 will run it, but it may be slow... depends on the clock speed.

Video is short on memory - means it's an old slow card. You need a bigger faster video card (and do *not* try to run 'glass' on that setup... it will be painfully slow or won't work).

Microsoft have a downloadable vista-ready check... which will tell you all the areas your PC fails the minimum spec or doesn't meet recommended spec. Have a look at their website.

Maybe. Go to the microsoft web site and download and run the Vista Upgrade Advisor. It will tell you if your hardware is compatible. But even if it does run, odds are that it will be very slow. I'd recommend a minimum of 1GB of RAM.

Atleast 1GB RAM is recommended to install Vista. It will work with your current configuration, but will be sluggish

From the sound of it, yes. As long as you have 16 GB of hard drive space, you can run Windows 7.
