No.
Biblical apocalyptic literature predicts the coming of "the" Antichrist, the name given to the one who will be Christ’s chief enemy. This will be just one person.
It is not uncommon for fundamentalist writers or preachers to attach the label to a currently living person. By calling a second (or third or fourth) person "the" Antichrist, they show that they were wrong when they applied the title to the first person.
Every Pope since the time of Martin Luther has been labeled "the" Antichrist by at least one anti-Catholic "Christian," making each one incorrect (so far).
The adjective "anti-Christ" does not refer to the person prophesied in the Bible. It may be applied to an attitude or action judged to be fundamentally opposed to Christ and his message, for example: Hating others is anti-Christ.
Pope Benedict XVI just wrote a wonderful book entitled, "Jesus of Nazareth." http://www.ignatius.com/ViewProduct.aspx?SID=1&Product_ID=3060&AFID=42
From a book review: Through his brilliance as a theologian and his personal conviction as a believer, the Pope shares a rich, compelling, flesh-and-blood portrait of Jesus and invites us to encounter, face-to-face, the central figure of the Christian faith.
How can someone who writes such a book be accused of being either the Antichrist or anti-Christ?
With love in Christ.

Only anti-christ or a rabid anti-Catholic would dare call the pope anti-christ.
For example, the Missouri Synod of the Lutheran Church teaches that the pope is the anti-christ. If that were the case, then the world should have come to an end long ago, as in the book of revelation, the anti-christ is revealed only 7 years prior to the return of Jesus. But at least they don't publish this info on their home page anymore. Here's the link.

Everyone else understands that in spite of the well known failings of a few popes, no pope has ever denied the divinity of Jesus Christ, and no pope has ever claimed to be God.
And if such a thing would or could ever happen, no self respecting Catholic would go along with it.
And remember, it was Jesus who personally founded his church on Peter the Rock, and it was Jesus who authorized, empowered, and eternally guaranteed the only church he ever founded for the purpose of our salvation ... and that church remains one, holy, Catholic, and apostolic to this day.

Noone from anybody could say that the Pope is the anti-christ. The Pope is the representation of Christ on earth. Christ build rock on Peter, that rock represent the Church. Peter successor is the Pope. Therefore, the works & teaching of Christ was pass-on to Peter is also carried on by the Pope.So Pope cannot at all be the anti-christ.

no..this got started by people who read the book of revelation but not he book of daniel....
they were guessing because the woman that sits on the beast is a city on 7 hills.....but first , who is the woman?
it later explains that the 7 not only represents 7 hills, but also 7 kings......the beast is the anti-christ,,,not the woman....
the beast will have an association with the city of rome, which does not necessarily mean the vatican.
a fallen element of the catholic church and other churches could be involved with the beast as a false religious system, who would go along with the antichrist....but the followers and the antichrist are 2 diffrent elements in the prophesy.
the beast is very specifically described in daniel and confirmed in revelation.....it consists of the selucid portion of the ancient greecian empire represented by the lion ( babylon), bear ( persia), and leopard ( greece)..
the antichrist will be a gentile muslim with an assyrian background ( Isaiah 10), he will be of a royal family (daniel 9) and will be made king of babylon ( Isaiah 13,14) ..the beast represents the kingdom of the antichrist...and it is all represented by muslim countries now.
the map below shows the territory which will be dominated by the beast (antichrist) in the latter days, whcih we are in right now. this represents the territory in the prophesy. the outline actually looks like a beast too.

No. The Antichrist will be a person capable of bringing the ENTIRE WORLD under the control of a one world government AND religion. I doubt seriously that the head of the Roman Catholic church would be able to rein in all the worlds' Muslims and Hindus (roughly 18% of the planet's population) under a veil of Catholocism. The Antichrists' deception will have to be able to transcend and blend ALL religion, almost as if he takes the "best of the best" from each one in order to make his ultimate deception along with his Satanically charged "counterfeit miracles" more palatable.

I certainly would not go as far as saying that he is the antichrist...however..... I think that he gets much much more credit than he deserves.... I think I saw someone mention that he is the representation of Christ on earth....now that is taking it tooooooooooo far!
