It used to work for me. I was attracted to the difficult ones. They were out of reach. So it was easy to imagine that everything would be perfect once I got them. I think I was also trying to resolve a childhood situation, to take a girl(my mother) who I felt didn't really like me and turn her into someone who was interested in, and wanted to be around, me. Through recovery and therapy I learned that this was a nearly impossible task. And even if I could pull this off, it wouldn't change the fact that I couldn't satisfy my mother's demands. My mother liked the nice guy I could pretend to be, but I never got the impression she liked the real me.
So now these girls are becomming less attractive to me. Although the draw of realizing this conversion dream still has its pull.
