Why celebrate Easter and Christmas?

I mean, those are pagan feasts. Christmas uses the symbolism of Yule and Winter Equinox (Cletic Paganism), Easter is a name adapted from Eostre, the Spring Equinox, the Pagan FEstival of Fertility.

Do you think we should celebrate these holidays for what they are, and not wrap them up in Symbolism that they are not? It makes me feel ill in the stomach when I see a children's "Christmas" book, whihc is trying to sell Chirstian themes in Pagan symbolism.

What do you think?

It's like you are living in ancient time.

There are even pagans, atheists, etc who are more christian than any christian living today.

Christian is Christ like.. loves and cares for others unconditionally.

I would tell you a story.

I have a friend who has a grandma who doesn't know her birthday. His grandma was born in the time of war. There was no document or someone left to tell of her birthday. And so his family decided to celebrate her birthday on the day when everyone can come together.. so that they can all gather together to celebrate her birthday.
That wasn't her real birthday, but everytime they give a celebration for her birthday she is very happy. My friend and his family doesn't know when her birhday is but they know she has a birhtday. Then why not celebrate.

Then why not celebrate Easter and Christmas?
We don't know when but we know Jesus was born here on earth and He was resurrected to Heaven.

We don't worship these days for the pagan symbols.
Since when did you hear a Christian celebrating Easter and Christmas saying "I am celebrating because its spring equinox or winter soltice"?
We celebrate Easter as reminder for us that Jesus has resurrected. And we celebrate Christmas as a reminder for us that Jesus was born on earth.
We have presserved the goodness in it which is the sharing and caring and loving for the poor which are very Christian acts and destroyed that was bad which is the belief in spring equinox and winter soltice and replaced it with goodnes which is to believe Jesus was born and resurrected.

What do you think?

God bless..

I hope when you hear Easter and Chrstmas you'll be reminded of Jesus' resurrection and birth.

We are not pagans and we don't believe in spring equinox and winter soltice. Why do you believe in it?

The word nice in medival times was used for prostitutes. Does that mean you are a prostitute if someone call you nice today?

What if your child's birthday falls on the 25th of December?
Aren't you going to celebrate because you believe its the winter soltice? How bad that you still believe in pagan celebration that your child will think that his/her birthday falls on a pagan day. How good it is for your child to know that his/her birthday falls on Christmas the day Christ was born.
You should start celebrating Easter and Christmas as Jesus resurrection and birth.

Christians celebrate Easter as the day when Jesus Christ rose from the dead. So all who die in Christ shall also be with Him. Christmas is a time when Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus. Jehovah's Witnesses do not celebrate any of these and use pagan feasts, but the reality is they do not believe Jesus is the SON of GOD so do not want to worship HIM

We vcelebratethe Birth & Resurrection...true 'Easter' was apagan term, and Christmas is celebrated at the wrong time. But do you object to Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, etc when all those are pagan names, too? If those festivals are worshipped in Spirit and in truth I, forone, do not believe that God is so petty as to get upset. Maybe you area little more hyper-sensitive than HE is!!

Christmas was introduced in 321AD to replace the Roman midwinter celebrations. It's when Western Christians celebrate the gift of Christ to the world. The various pagan rituals we have tacked onto it have only been included in British celebrations since Victorian times. Prince Albert brought them with him from Thuringia.

The only connection between Easter and Eostre is the word we use in English. Most other European languages use the word for Passover. (Pasque, Pasqua etc).

All the feasts and celebrations of the Bible were taken from Pagan feasts and customs.

Christians should celebrate their feasts and seasons in an open ,committed and Christ-centered way that takes in the whole person ,body, mind and spirit.

I think somebody has sold you a bill of goods.

Christian feasts are Christian feasts, no matter what the day ... just as anyone who has been baptized in faith is an authentic Christian ... no matter what they may have been before.

The nonsense about paganism was made up in the 19th century by several virulent anti-Catholics and it is still used (and believed) by some today ... for their own nefarious purposes.

Easter is all about Christ's victory over satan, sin, and death.

Christmas is celebrated on the likely actual date for Jesus' CONCEPTION in Mary's womb ... and that's close enough for me.

Wise up!

I so TOTALLY agree with the asker. God even said DON'T~ yet the so called "leaders" and "pope", in hoping to "convert" people to the faith, allowed certain festifities to contine with in the church.... only exchanging the originality to christian dates. I'm so glad to see that someone other than me see this without me having to mention it!

Churches need to STOP worshipping those "days"... as to me, it's not the meaning of the day, but the day itself that they are worshiping as well as the pagan meaning behind it....

Thank you so much for bringing it out. As a "Christian", I don't celebrate "easter" nor "christmas". And so called other Christian believers need to realize the truth and also stop following the "traditions of man" as Jesus tells us to..

Another thing that bugs me is this: Christ did NOT die on a Friday, but on Wednesday. 3 days and 3 nights would bring His rising to sometime during the night of SATURDAY TO DAWN on SUNDAY. Can't they count? 3 days and 3 nights He was in the grave. Friday to Sunday is NOT 3 days and 3 nights.

Another thing... It's too damn cold for the sheep to be out grazing in DECEMBER!.... The latest the shepherds take them out is late October...Even many Muslims have it right that Jesus was born on September 11th! as the Astrological star charts show... At least they have a clue!

Like I always say,"believe God, NOT man! and I do! I don't take the Bibles we have today literally as they have been so watered down to consort with man's desires... I study all the old texts and languages... People who don't really "study (and teach) to show themselves *approved of GOD a workman that need not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth", aren't really students of God.

2 Timothy 2:15

Get the facts straight, "Christians": and start worshipping the Lord the REAL way... the way HE wants us to. and you will find that He will bless you more.

Let them if they want to, but I wish they would acknowledge that they were pagan festivals stolen by the Christians in their savage attempts to convert the world to Christianity.

Your question reminds me of a religious leader who are against Catholic Holidays.

It could be properly called Resurrection and The birth of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

We can't leave the fact of the custom and traditions of the greater majority here in our country. Its respect for their beliefs. Now even Islam holidays are declared regular holidays here in the Philippines.
