1st:Just because someone is nice to the people around them, doesn't mean that they are a good person. Even a person who donates all their time to charity, can be a bad person. Having people who know you tell you that you are a good person doesn't necessarily qualify either?

2nd: Just because you feel good for doing something, that doesn't mean that you did a good thing. Just because you feel bad about doing something doesn't mean you did something bad.

What say you ?

Pardon me, but why are some mentioning religion if they are atheist? Can't you get religion out of the subconscious mind.

So you are good, by the way you live your life and because you are nice to a your friends and family? Sounds sorta shallow to me. Do you think you are good because you gave an homeless guy a buck on the street. Or do you want to people to think you are good for doing so?

Just because you don't lie, cheat, or steal doesn't mean that you are a good person. Remember Nurse Ratchett from One flew over the cuckoo nest. She fit your description and she was followed the rules to the T. Another example would be in Mommie Dearest where, Crawford made her daughter give up all her toys for christmas.

The answer seems to be that everything is gray anymore. Bad is not really bad if the person feels it is good. Absolute truth is seen as intolerance. Everyone says they are a good person.

I agree, by what standards are we comparing good?

Because I live my life as I see it. My motto is that my actions (or inaction) should increase the sum total of happiness in the world, that may involve upsetting some people some of the time, it may involve increasing my happiness at the expense of someone else sometimes, but overall it means I try to make those around me (including myself) happy.

I don't get my rules from a book made up 2000 years ago or try to make an imaginary being happy.

"Why do you assume that you are a good person? "
I don't assume to be a 'good' person. Since I am a Christian, I assume that I am not a good person. I am more concerned with what God thinks, and according to Him, there aren't any good people.

"Why do some associate good feelings with good deeds?"
Because often enough good feelings come with good deeds.

Good and bad don't exist, they're purely subjective opinions.

Beletj- wow off your head you just named 4/5 of the buddhist precepts (excluding sexual misconduct)! hehe

*I* am a good person because I don't lie, cheat, murder, steal... and so on.
