Early assessment of wisdom teeth is best. Don't wait for pain to force you to the dentist as a difficult emergency.
Most people cannot fit the wisdom teeth in well enough to maintain for a lifetime. If the dentist says you won't have enough room, then remove them as per his/her advice. Sometimes straightaway is best, sometimes you can allow them to come out a bit more. As you get older, they become more difficult to remove.
The worst risk with wisdom teeth is that it allows the accumulation of plaque between itself and the molar in front. This often results in decay deep on the back surface of the molar in front, and can result in having both teeth removed.
Have it assessed.

The best time to get your wisdom teeth out is between your teen years before your late 20's. Everyone's wisdom teeth are different. Even it you have room for them to come in they are going to be so far back in the jaw that it is difficult to brush them(toothbrush wont fit) and they are very difficult to fill on the cheek side when they get a cavity(since your toothbrush doesnt fit there) You can also get a painful bacteria infection that swells the gum around the wisdom tooth and really hurts. It can also go all through your body and really cause trouble. Getting them out before all of these problems occur is usually best. Ask your Dentist

I kept mine for a few years. My first wisdom tooth erupted when I was about 15 and the other when I was about 17. I just recently had them removed. There are many problems with wisdom teeth. Sometimes they don't grow in straight and can impact the other tooth beside it. In my case mine cracked and broke (both sides!) because as my dentist explain, since the wisdom teeth are so far back they are often overlooked in the brushing process and decay faster. Talk to your dentist about your options right now and see what he says.

Usually, people do need to have their wisdom teeth taken out. Don't keep them in just because they are not causing pain. Sometimes, as others mentioned, it is tough to get back there and clean the wisdom teeth and the molars near them, so removing them often prevents cavities and infections back there. The older you get, the tougher the procedure is to get them out, because your teeth are softer when you are young. It's not fun getting them taken out, but it is not so bad. I had my bottom two out and I was awake for it. As long as you follow instructions regarding pain meds, what to eat, and ice, etc., it'll be fine.

It depends on if they are causing you any pain after they've come in. It also depends on if they are coming in strait or at an angle. I had mine out several years ago because the were coming in at a pretty bad angle. So the best advice I can give you is to go see the Dentist and have them take some X-rays to see what the condition of them are and listen to the advice of the Dentist. Good luck to you.

I've got all 4 of mine (I'm no wiser for it by the way). It all depends on how much room you have in your mouth. Apparently I have a big mouth. If there isn't enough room for these extra teeth, they become impacted- they can't grow up and out- they get infected plus they cramp the other teeth and push them out of alignment.

Keep them unless they are causing a problem. No surgical procedure should be done unless necessary, no matter how seemingly simple it may be. So if they are not impacted or infected, or if dental x-ray don't suggest there in insufficient room for them to grow out properly, leave them alone

some people don't need to have them removed at all. If they don't hurt it's not a problem to keep them, but have a dentist look at them they could cause problems later on.
