I noticed that my hair tended to break easily especially when combing it but lately it has gotten a lot worse. Its gotten so bad that there are always hair on my carpet; I dont even notice that I lose so much sometimes! I am a 20 year old female. I dont think that the problem is genetic because although my father has a bald spot on his head, my brothers do not have any hair loss problems and my grandfather still has all his hair. I dont get enough sleep and dont really have a proper diet; my nails also tend to break easily-- I think this might be related? This is also a very stressful time for me...Also the top of my scalp gets sore sometimes and the hairs growing there become coarse and thick. They break off easily. The rest of my hair feels soft and looks healthy but I want to fix this problem before it gets worst...what should I do to fix it? Would putting some sort of oil in my hair to moisturize it help?? Thanks for your help!

You have answered your own question-if you aren't healthy your hair won't be.
Do whatever you need to to cope with your stress-therapy, medication, etc.-this will probably help with the sleep deficiency. Eat a healthy diet! that's the only recipe for strong hair. You may want to see a doctor and have your thyroid checked-that can cause hair and nails problems.
The main thing, though, is to take care of yourself, and that is really the only thing you can do.
