lived before the bible was written?

If you say because God sent Noah to tell them, how would you expect them to know that he was really sent by God and wasn't just some crazy old man? If some guy told you that God is going to send a flood if you don't repent, would you believe him or would you just think he was off his rocker?

wait, are you saying God killed the entire population of the world just to prove a point? Wow, that sounds incredibly "loving"

THEY weren't supposed to know. The people that came AFTER them were supposed to know that if you live a sinful live you could die a terrible death.

If you have faith and believe in God and God told you that he was going to send a flood, you'd have to have a "faith" check to see if you REALLY believed, or just go to church because it's what you do on Sunday.

It wasn't a matter of guilt, but of absolute necessity.

Almost all of humanity had been corrupted, and if things went on much longer, human salvation would have been virtually impossible, since no bloodline except Noah's remained untainted.

Watch "The Invasion of the Body Snatchers" on tape or DVD and you'll see what was happening at the time ... only via a different means of assimilation.

Then perhaps you will begin to understand.

Gen 6:9
"9 This is the account of Noah.
Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God."

People knew he was blameless, and that they were doing the wrong thing, yet they continued and knew what they did was wicked, but continued reguardless

There really was a flood
but lots of people survived everywhere

and some of the survivors made up exaggerated stories for the grandkids
and some of those exaggerated even more for their own grandkids
and someone wanting their own family to think they were special wrote it down
and when they gathered writings for the bible someone threw that one in for laughs

i think of your premise is incorrect. sure, all people who're rather sorry be waiting to be forgiven for their sins. yet, i do no longer think of the purpose of offering forgiveness is to grant sinners an "out" from punishment. . oftentimes, human beings whose habit is amoral might have no judgment of right and incorrect and no want to be forgiven or to alter their habit trend; nor might they concern approximately it. this could sound contradictory: Christianity isn't approximately deterring sin...that's on the subject of the debate - residing a only, ethical life which might (in a suited worldwide which we have not yet carried out) do away with the life of sin. Deep question without actual concrete answer.

There are some basic sins that are universal, such as murder, lying, desecration of the family, stealing, injustice. According to parallel historical records and archaeological artifacts, people of the time were preoccupied with murder. The estimate is that about one-in six people died of murder. People had lost all respect for life, so it seems that god didn't consider them worth saving

I agree with Robin Runesinger on this one. There are certain things that nearly ALL civilized societies believe are wrong, with or without the Bible. They should have known better.

You don't need the Bible to know basic morals.
