I ve heard different stories like, its beautiful with 400 thousand dollar homes. Then I hear its ghetto an full of drugs, an crack heads. I want to move to LA, but I need to know where is a good place to move close to nice University? I heard El Debarge lived in Palmdale, so I figured ok he's famous so it should be bad. An then I hear well, he's on drugs an is broke, so I figured ok, maybe this isnt a good place to live. I mean i dont want to come to Cali, hit Palmdale an pass out bc its so lame, an ghetto. I dont want to get robbed bc I have nice things. Someone who lived, lives there or had been there speak the truth an I will pick the best answer.

Palmdale has is good areas, and its bad areas. Since land is relatively cheap (versus LA), people built big houses during the real estate boom (recently gone bust). Some of the older areas are not so great. I do not like it because the city does not have the amenities I want in the community. (Shopping, dining, etc.) But the only thing that you wrote which catches my attention is that you want to move near a "nice university" and want to move to LA.

While people live in Palmdale and commute to LA for work, Palmdale is rather far away from Los Angeles -- if not in terms of miles, at least in terms of time spent in traffic. And it is not near a university (there is a community college).

Choose a school you want to attend first, then a community.

Palmdale is hotter than hell in the summer and cold (by LA standards) in the winter. There is a ton of drug/gang activity there. It's in the desert and there's nothing but tract housing and big box stores for miles. Sure, there are plenty of new homes, but it's all tract housing.

The low-income element got pushed out of LA and into places like Palmdale when the housing prices increased. If you like commuting well over an hour into the city each way, move to Palmdale.

Palmdale has it's good and bad, just like many cities in the LA area. It is way out in the desert, not near a University. Depending on what school you are going to attend, there are many cities that are closer and nicer towards LA. If you are attending Cal State Northridge, choose the San Fernando Valley. Cal State Dominguez Hills, check the local area. You definitely don't want to have to commute very far for school.

As with any city Palmdale has its bad and good. But remember it is built in the desert. Very hot in the summer time and windy and cold in the winter. Yes, housing is cheaper that Los Angeles. Their crime rate is high. Go you Yahoo's home page. On the search line put in...demographics Palmdale, CA

The first thing you will notice about Palmdale is the smell of crystal meth being manufactured. Then you will notice the long @$$ trip you need to take on SR 14 to get to the LA area. Enough said!

Oh, and let's not forget the maximum security state prison in neighboring Lancaster.
