Thambi in Tamil itself means YOUNGER BROTHER. CHINNA means SMALL. So Small Younger Brother - rather to mean the youngest brother. Sometimes it is told with love and affection to the youngest one as a PET name.-

If you want the literal meaning ''chinna thambi'' refers to the younger brother . the relationship is between the elder and younger brothers.But sometimes it is also refers and indicates the closeness of two separate individuals.
