I actually feed my family of four on $50 a week, and we eat really well. We eat a lot of fresh produce, and stay away from packaged meals. If I make a roasted chicken with all the trimmings (4-6 dollars for the whole meal), then I make chicken salad or chicken noodle soup with the leftovers. So I got two healthy meals for under $10. We drink 2 gallons of milk, eat 2 loaves of bread, and eat a dozen eggs each week, but we have plenty left in our budget for meat, fruit, and veggies. We shop at Costco for some items, and shop sales for other items.

Oh, this is an easy one! I actually had to do this for many years when my husband was a private in the military. You choose to buy either a chicken, turkey, or an economical roast beef. You use this as your basis for the weeks meals. Make a roast dinner with potatoes, gravy and vegetables the first night. The second night you have hot turkey, chicken or beef sandwiches. You can also choose to make chicken a la king or small pot pies. On day three you can make chicken salad or roast beef hash. Then use the bones to make a broth on the fourth day and add vegetables to make soup. That gives you a fourth day. For the rest of the week, alternate canned baked beans , or omelets

I would eat soup made with dry beans. I'd be soaking the beans overnight and watch that 69 cent bag of beans grow into several quarts of beans--great for soup. Add celery, onions, carrots etc.

To make the soup hearty and rib-sticking, I'd take a cup or two of the beans and mash them in the blender. Add back to the soup and oh, it's so yummy!

I like to add thyme to my soups.

If you need meat, add chicken or those little sausages which you can get in a pack of 10 for $1. I cut those up and use them sometimes.

Breakfasts could be egg omelettes, with veggies or shredded cheese. Buy the 18 pack of eggs.

Oatmeal with dates, raisins, apples or whatever is also tasty. Buy the canister, not the packets.

Sandwiches and salads would be great. Turkey, tuna or grilled cheese sandwiches are fine. Have with or without the soup.

Have rice on hand, preferably brown rice and have it with those few veggies & meats you have left over.

Or make tacos with what you have left.

You could have a tuna/noodle casserole. Spaghetti too.

Do NOT eat ramean noodles. They are sooo full of fat.

You'd have money to spare--like $20-30 left!

Enjoy, stay healthy, stay fit.

Good luck.

wow too easy, we live on maybe $30 a week in groceries - and that's Australian dollars too lol

Go to the slaughterhouse once a month and bulk buy all the meat you will need for the coming month - buy the cheapest cuts of meat.

2L of milk and 2 loaves of bread do us for the week, cheap butter, cheese, etc. We buy from the cheap "no brand" supermarket where possible and buy 70c bottles of soft drink that are better than fanta and coke, etc. We buy pasta for about 60c a packet so we try to pad out our meals with lots of pasta and tinned tomato (another cheapy at less than $1 per can) and frozen or fresh vegetables.

$5 worth of veggies for a great soup that lasts for up to 3 days. I add a can of beans to it, cheap and healthy. Rice dishes, 1 can of tuna can make two meals for two people. You'll still have money left for a bit of a treat. Make sure you but all the on sale goodies.

50 for a week is a lot. I'd make some pasta, some salmon and asparagus, some steak and chicken of some sort, not to mention shrimp and whatever else I felt like. I wish I had that much to play with every week.

If you live in large area, you chances of scoring free or cheap food are high.

Your best bet is to look around town for food banks, shelters, etc., save the money and buy a can opener...

If you think I am kidding about the can opener, go to the local food bank and ask for food.

This has actually happen to me while in Washington state.

While I was looking for work, I went to a food bank and I asked for food.

They gave me plenty of food and there was plenty of canned goods.

Problem was that they didn't give out can openers.

So I ended up busting a can of Dintiy Moore on the sidewalk just so I could have decent food to eat.

Not to mention spattering it all over me and a few passing cars.
