not true...but Chinese in general look after their parents when they are old, not necessarily by choice but out of filial respect, duty and gratitude for their sacrifices for raising the children...it is also a tenet of buddhism to respect and care for our parents when they are old...we used to do that too in many Western countries, but we invented old folks homes to dump our aging parents when they became too much of a burden...

But doesn't most of our salary go to our family anyways??? I have 4 kids, and at the end of the month, I'm left with about $10 of spending money in my pocket...

No, it isn't a law. It is your personal choice. If that's true, then people wouldn't work in Hong Kong or not have a family.

Your question is not clear. What about the other 50%? What's wrong with 50% goes directly to the family?
