The Chevrolet Cobalt is a very sporty looking car if you get one with a fin they are compact and priced new at about $9,000.00 to about $15,000.00 you should look stylish as well get good gas mileage which is a plus and be able to carry friends and family along with you no problem and not be packed in. And everyone always says a Honda is the best all around car but almost EVERYONE who goes looking for a small compact affordable car gets a Honda gosh there are more all around cars than the Honda and in my OPINION the Cobalt has proven to me to be a great reliable sporty car. My moms has 282,000 miles on it and runs great, all she has ever had to do to that car is change the tires and oil and fix the motor in the window. OH yeah and for the ones who think you will smash up what you get, I got a 1998 Mustang GT that was so fixed up I could make the front end stand up when I was 16, Sorry to say knock on wood I never wrecked it and I still got it and i'm 19 almost 20 now. Not all of the 16 year old starters are bad decision makers.

I like tom52519’s answer. Maybe a slightly used Beetle. VW is. Pound for dollar, one of the best built cars on the planet. Beetles are popular with young women. I too wanted the Porsche when I was young and couldn’t afford one. I almost bought a bathtub Carrere from a dealer in Stuttgart but the factory warned me not to buy that particular car. I didn’t get another chance until years later, a chance I was able to take.

The Beetle would be my advice. I would also suggest you concentrate on math in school. Anyone can learn math and those of your friends, you like, may need a job some day.

I can't ever say this enough. I would purchase a Toyota or Honda. These vehicles are really durable, dependable, and safe. Let alone, affordable. If they do come up with a problem, you're covered with the warranty or, if there's no warranty it won't cost you an arm and a leg for a fix. No wonder I have always purchased Toyota's and Honda's. They also have great re-sale value. Take my advice, you won't go wrong with these. To back me up, Toyota is selling like crazy. But then again, this is just my opinion of good vehicles. Hope you make the right decision.

The Subaru Impreza is very safe, small and economical, and still fun to drive. It is very reliable, and should last a long time without much money being spent on repairs. I would highly recommend it.
Others to consider are the Honda Civic, Accord, CRX, and Prelude, The Toyota Camry, Celica, and Corolla, the Acura Integra an dthe Subaru Legacy. All great cars taht are very reliable, and most get excellent gas mileage!
Good Luck!

cute and small is all good on gaz, but your a new driver, get urself a big car. Trust me i've heard so many people dieing in little cars, your better off in a big car.. Small cars arent safe..

U can pick urself up a use lincoln ls for around that much, just get the car looked at good, Lincoln rides smooth handles great and very safe... Or look at a toyota camry, those are nice and u can get a demo 07 at a good rate too

check them out, but stick with a big car

toyota camry 4cylc is great on gaz, safe too, but not as safe as a soild lincoln.

Think Big,

In that price range Toyota Yaris is cute and reliable. Good resale so later on you can move up to maybe a Honda Civic and eventually your dream car "Porsche"....:) Good luck and drive safely whatever car you wind up in.

Only get what car you can afford to pay cash for. Stay away from car payment hell. Then if you ever get laid off, no worry.
Financially healthy people don't do car payments. See www.DaveRamsey.com.
Remember the cool car today is passe next year. My favorite car that I have had is my MINI Cooper. Save your $$$$$and get what you can afford. While your friends are driving a cool debtmobile and eating Top Raman, you can be driving your car and have no worries about $$$$.

I'm 17 years old, and trust me on this, you want the most reliable, and practical vehicle available. I was stupid and bought a 69 Chevy blazer and lifted it, and when gas prices hit three dollars a gallon it sucked then my car started to just fall apart due to the miles. so the lesson is to look for a car that fits you is reliable, and one you are comfy with, the cool factor is not so cool when your stuck at home because your car broke or is too expensive to drive.

Ok when i turned 16, i got my mom's car which was a Hyundai so do yourself a favor and DON"T get a Hyundai, they suck but if you really want safety for a low price, i recommend going to a used car place. Chevys are good reliable cars, any german-made car is pretty good but that's just me, i drive fast, loud, german-engineered muscle cars. I'm 19 and drive a red firebird.
I think something cute, small, and at that price would be a used mitsubishi.

Get a used Volvo that's in good repair. Preferably a 240 if you can find one.

Or a Honda with side air-bags.

GM's got some nice models, especially if you want the added safety of On-Star.

Good luck. The mere idea of buying any car depresses me at my age. Hopefully, you'll love your first car experience, like I did.
