I am 19 and am working a dead end job. I am also going to school full-time. I have only been at my job for three months, but I am SO tired of it! Since starting school about a month ago I have gotten so stressed out! It's Sunday night, and I can't sleep because I'm so worried about work tomorrow. Also, while I am doing alright in school I am not doing as well as I could be doing. I can afford to quit, and honestly I want to but there are a few things standing in my way.

1) I've only been there 3 months.
2) I just became eligible for health insurance. I don't want to sign up for it and then quit, and I also don't want to not have it.
3) I am worried that the social interaction that I get at school will not be enough to make up for the lack of interaction that I am currently getting from work.

If you have any suggestions please let me know! Thank you so much!

Welcome to this thing called life. Work sucks. Most people hate their jobs, bosses, careers. But, alas, you need to pay the bills. You can either suck it up and keep working, or just bum off the parents like most of this loser generation

If the job is dead end and not a stepping-stone to your future anyway... and you don't even need the money...

Why not quit and try some job that sounds fun to you? There are some pretty easy jobs out there that don't pay great, but you'll still make a few extra bucks and meet people... Maybe learn to do something that interests you as a hobby. Work less hours?

The health insurance would be nice to have... Maybe be daring while you're still young enough to probably get away with it?... Liking your life should always be job one. Nobody knows how long they have. People will tell you that you need to work your butt off now to enjoy the future... The fact is... You're in the best shape you'll ever be in to enjoy your life right now!!! Plan for the future, but most importantly, ENJOY YOUR LIFE!!!

Forget all this stuff about building your resume and being responsible... You're going to school!!!... and it seems like you really want to work in addition... YOU ROCK!!! If there ever comes a time you have to stick it out in an unpleasant situation, I have no doubt you'll make it. No reason at all to do it when you don't have to though!!! I think they're just jealous... Take the high road and you'll always be on top. Be just and fear not.

As a manager and part time student here is what I suggest:

Although I don't know what you're going to school for, I think work experience whether its field related or not is important. School interaction is NOT the same as dealing with coworkers and customers. IT will also teach you how to deal with work place issues and politics.

That being said, if your job is completely boring and you can't stand it you should seek new employment and preferably as close to the field you will be working in after graduation, even if its completely entry level. However, try and stick it out until you find a new job. Its easier to get a job when you already have one. As a manager at my job I see loads of applications everyday and if someone stands out as a job hopper they fall to the bottom of the stack.

As far as your insurance goes, think that through. I had to go without insurance for some time and during that period I was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor. Although its not lethal, I couldn't afford the medication on my own. Once I got insurance it was a "pre-existing" condition and I've been basically penalized for it ever since. My husband during that same period had an accident and he needed stitches. A twenty minute procedure ended up costing us over a thousand dollars because we didn't have the insurance. Its something to think about.

Good luck!

Well you have been there 3 Months, sounds so familiar because I have been at my job for three months and I hate it also. I just got insurance and don't want to lose it, but some insurance companies will let you pay the co-payment and keep the insurance, or you can get cobra insurance.
Also there are many outside insurance companies like Blue Cross Blue Shield I have been looking at.
To make a long story short unlike you I can not quit before I find another job, so your case is different.
If it really makes you feel that way I think the job is not worth it.
Maybe you can look for another job while still employed at the one your at, you might have to wait for insurance however.

Yea I was in the same situation with school and loading trailers at FedEx with benefits after 1000 hours. This was the most dead end of Dead End Jobs! In the end, the stress and the pressures will simply become to much to handle, I ended up dropping 2 out of my 4 classes. Its much better to get a better job or just finish out the classes w/ out the job. For some a job is absolutely necessary so take only 2 classes instead. I really feel for students in this situation so I wish you the best of luck!

Hang in there and welcome to the real world. You are just starting out, great that you can get insurance!!! Go YOU!! But a job is a job for you at this age, and is not your life choice yet - - HOWEVER, it is the beginning of your resume and you need to remember you are creating a history or your employment, trustworthyness, etc. Every job you have and how you treat it will follow you as your job history. Make it count.

If you can afford to and you're truly not happy there then yes. I cut back my hours drastically this semester and it's helped me a lot with school. I miss having steady work and money to spend but I am doing so much better in school and my stress level is much lower.

Right now the best solution is concentrate in your school and do a parttime job in a less stressfull enviornment if at all the job is necessary for your needs. By doing so you will be able to concentrate more on your studies and you will less tired.

Welcome to reality! Not too pleasat, is it?
Unfortunately, most of us are not independently wealthy, we have to work at jobs we don't particularly enjoy, but it pays the bills and provides health insurance.
