The vets all have prices figured out on the standard stuff. You can call around to several different ones and ask their standard rates for a checkup and for shots for a new kitten.

The rates here in the Milwaukee area are $35 for a checkup, $15 for the rabies shot and $18 for the 3-in-1 shot.

Worming is cheap, take in a poop sample and they'll get the medicine that's right for the particular parasite. Yes, some worms are transferable to people, but if you wash your hands when you've scooped the litter, that eliminates a lot of it.

Find a pet vac. This is a vet that travels around. They are ALOT cheaper than a regular vet. As to whether you can get worms, yes and no. It depends on the type of worm. If the worms are small, you should be safe. If they are larger, SEE A VET to determine which one it is. He/she can give more details. As for the Wal-Mart meds, they might help, but keep an eye on the kitty. Most worms can be deadly for cats, especially younger kittens. Hope this helps.

Yes, humans can contract worms. Dont let it lick your face. they should be wormed every 3 weeks for a total of 3 times at least. Stool sample should be given as well as they also can acarry other parasites not seen by eye that is also contagious to humans.
At my vet:
office call 31
wormer 9.50
shot- 19.00
fecal-19.00

due in three weeks for 2/3 shots and 2/3 dewormer.. no office call

three more weeks... shot 3/3 and dewormer 3/3 and rabies.

then spay or neuter.

Alot of wormer is sold in store, a lot works. pyrantel is a good choice.

Please don't give her over the counter worm medicine unless your vet tells you to. You are right not to trust it.
