If there isn't any bloodshed (or only a couple of drops) let them work it out between them. They will have to do it anyway. Make sure you give the original dog a lot of attention, so he feels as good as possible about the change.
I imagine the new dog is insecure and this is why she's attacking. Give her some good obedience training as soon as you can: sit, stay, heel, down, etc. This will give her some structure and a feeling of belonging. Then, whenever you don't like her behavior, you just say No! then put on her leash and collar and start practicing Sit! Heel! Down! This gets her away from doing what you don't like to doing what you like.

I first had a rat terrier. Two and a half years later I brought home a min pin. The rat terrier didn't like it too much because he was very jealous. They are both males and now they are 2 peas in a pod. They sleep together, play together, still scrap every now and then...but NEVER as much as scratched one another. It took a little while because my terrier was and still is extremely attached to me. What dogs do is they try to figure out who is the alpha dog...leader of the pack. When that is established, there will be less fighting. It can take up to a couple of months though. As long as it is not harmful behavior or bloodshed, they will work it out. Be sure to give them both equal attention and love. Encourage playtime together. Females will behave the same way.

I just brought home a new puppy too. My older dog didn't like him at first, but I put the new one in the bathroom with the door closed so that they could sniff eachother with out the threat of snapping or growling. This gets them excited and curious about who is on the other side of the door. I would also put the new one in a different room seperated by a baby gate so that they could see each other and get use to how the other behaves. After a month or so, they are best buddies now. It just took a while at first.

Your dogs are arguing over the pecking order, dogs are pack animals. Meaning they have an order that strongest is number 1 and weakest at the bottom, and then everyone in between. They don't understand being equal, There has to be a leader and the followers, once THEY have established who is the more dominant, they should get along fine.

I have a 14 year old Chihuahua and about 4 years ago I brought home a black lab puppy. She was always snapping at her and growling well this summer my black lab died. She was 3.5 years old. They became best friends because my little dog is still morning for her. So my best advice is time. Keep there food separated and there beds. Be patient and it will happen they will become friends. Also don't push it spend time with both of them together and separate. Also are they both fixed can that can make a difference.
