I think that most probably December 21st, 2012 will come and go and nothing will happen! I know that the Mayan calendar is supposed to predict the end of the world occurring on that date, but there are possibilities that the Mayan calendar may have been misinterpreted, or that the Mayans may have been incorrect, or that they miscalculated. Also, there are those who are Evangelicals, fundamentalist Christians, Millennialists, et al., who continue to await the Rapture and End Times, expecting that they will transpire at any moment. However, Christians have been prophesizing the identical events since the first millennium, therefore the Rapture is not so likely to happen now either. Of course, there are additionally genuine physical happenings which could cause the extinction of the human race or the destruction of the Earth. The History Channel televised a fascinating program enumerating the eight actual events which could instigate the "end of the world" and, thus, humanity; from eight to one in descending order and increasing probability they were:
8) Gamma ray burst from a distant super nova
7) Wandering black hole
6) Artificial Intelligence run amok (a la "Hal" in "2001, A Space Odyssey")
5) Asteroid strike
4) Eruption of a super volcano (such as the one beneath Yellowstone National Park)
3) Nuclear war followed by nuclear winter
2) Plague such as Avian Flu
1) Global warming
So, clearly, the potential exists for the world's demise, and conceivably it could occur upon 12/21/2012, but then who will be present to say, "Aha! The Mayans were right!"?

I think I am throwing an "End of the World" disaster themed party... Hurricane drinks, Volcano cake, etc. I plan on getting totally wasted and having a hangover until New Years...

Other than that it's simply the end of the Mayan long and short calanders just another day... How often is there a great reason for a "Disaster Themed" party?

I ran this date in a Bible Code program and there were no entries, the day before had hits and the day after had hits.
Whatever happens is hidden.
