It's a shame that more people don't appreciate what Jeff Gordon is doing for Nascar. We are seeing history being made every weekend when Jeff races. Jeff brought Nascar to the mainstream and helped shape what it is today. It's time you people give Jeff the credit he deserves. Oh, but please keep booing him. It really seems to fire him up!!

Jeff Gordon is one of the best, he's not the best, because facts/stats will tell you/me there are other drivers who possess better stats than Jeff Gordon. Don't get me wrong, I too think Jeff Gordon is a great driver and has accomplished a lot in his racing career. But to say he's the best, isn't paying any tribute/credit to other drivers whose stats are better than or equal to Jeff's.

As for why some ppl hate Jeff, one thing comes to mind, they're jealous of what Jeff has been able to accomplish while their driver is mediocre at best. Jealousy is a terrible emotion and sadly we can't do anything about it. That's just another part of life we can overlook or just laugh at and I prefer the latter.

:)

I agree, Jeff Gordon is argueably the best driver of all time. It is hard to compare him to Pearson ,etc. because back then, the cars were not all as equal. Back then few drivers actually finished on the lead lap, the cars hardly stayed in a close pack. Therefore, a large part of winning came from just having the money to have great machine. As far as Petty's all time wins goes, no one will top that, but thats because NASCAR races were held twice a week back then!
But why do I not like Jeff Gordon, (and Jimmie Johnson)? Because he wins all the time. Its too much. I mean, even when the the team wins its like they dont even care that much anymore. If you watch the pit crew, they are all just high-fiving each other in the pit stall. If you watch any other team win, they will be going nuts in the pit stall because they are really excited. With Jeff Gordon, winning is just automatic. It makes for very boring racing, in my opinion.

Nice dream you're having there Sissy.
We will know the truth next season just how good Jr is when he joins Hendrick's team.
Nothing against Jr, but how good is he really?

I have been a nascar fan only within the past couple of years, and Gordon has been the best driver I have seen. So for me Jeff Gordon is the best driver out there.

Fans can hate Gordon all they want but it doesn't take away from the fact he is & always be a winner & to fans who say they would like to see someone else in the winner's circle other than Jeff, so be it & what if Jr was winning a lot of races(yeah like that will ever happen) or any other driver would yousay the same thing then.

Just because Jeff Gordon isn't my favorite driver, means neither that I hate him nor that I don't consider him one of the best. I happen to think that my favorite driver is the best, because, in his entire career, and in all the series he has raced in, Tony Stewart has more wins and championships than Jeff Gordon has had in all of the series in which he has raced.
History will place both Gordon and Stewart among the greatest, and they both deserve to be there.
I don't hate Jeff Gordon, or any other driver in racing, I respect every one of them. I just enjoy seeing any driver besides Jeff Gordon win.

Granted, Jeff has a very incredible career. And, granted, he's a class-act despite the hate. However, the 'greats' are never really looked at as 'great' until long after their careers are over.

It's probably a dead-split when you divide the haters from the lovers. That being said, you're going to get a majourity reaction one way or another.

A friend of mine watched the Lowe's Motour Speedway race with me this weekend; he's a huge fan of Jeff's. We were both literally in shock when the fans started to -cheer- Gordon instead of boo him. The reactions to his wins aren't always the same, though. Consider when he won Talledega and had cans and bottles thrown at him. This time? Nothing.

That being said: I give the man his due. He's a great racer, no doubt...

...but I'll stick to Mark Martin, greatest driver never to win a championship. ;)

I agree with you. I think he is the best and I think he is even better than Dale Sr. People will say well if he were still alive... Terrible as it may seem Dale Sr. is not alive so no one can attest to how he would be doing now. I do know that Jeff Gordon has more wins. If the point system (and that is the point system Dale Sr. raced under) had not changed he would be working on his 7th. championship. People can state who they like, but the facts are the facts.
Oh yeah I'm not a Gordon fan or a Johnson fan.

I'm not a Jeff Gordon hater...He is one of the best..Let him retire from racing someday then he will go on the list, he is still driving, and I'm sure he will end up in the top 5.. He will never pass King Richard on the list, Dale Sr, or David Pearson.. I just get tired of his whinning...he is so spoiled take him out of the best equipment for 1 yr....We'd all be wearing ear plugs for the interview...whine whine.

Petty and Pearson took it from an oddity and made it cool for the entire South. Dale Sr. made it cool for tough guys and took it to the brink of mainstream. Gordon has made it cool for the masses.

Nobody will ever catch Petty in wins, but if Gordon wins this year and still wants it, he might get the 8 championships. The debate is not over, but in 10 years we may very well look back on Gordon as the best to ever get up on that wheel.
