I'm LDS
It's funny for years we were telling Evangelicals that we also believe in being born again by accepting Jesus Christ as our personal savior. And that is the beginning of our beliefs and not the end...
So to differentiate themselves from us some evangelicals adopted the rhetoric that Mormons believe in a different Jesus Christ (this idea has grown over the last 20 years -- 40 years ago no one said this).
Without this lie there is no reason an Evangelical shouldn't entertain the thought of becoming a Mormon.

What's wrong is how people just can't see beyond their own noses. They @$$/U/me the weirdest things. They say we believe this or that, and we usually don't, or not like they say, but they refuse to change their minds. Because, of course, all Mormons lie!
They believe that if we only read our Bible, we will just automatically see how wrong we are and leave in a hot minute. But, you know what? I JOINED theh LDS church because of the Bible!
They try to use Revelation 22 and Galatians 1 against us, but they take this SO out of context and refuse to be sidetracked by anything resembling the facts.
They call Joseph Smith all sorts of ugly names, but refuse to see what a good man he really was.
And they think that, by arguing with the missionaries and bamboozling them with anti-Mormon "facts" that these poor boys know absolutely nothing about, until the missionaries leave in disgust, they have won! When all they've done is to make them so disgusted that they lose whatever respect they ever had for non-LDS Christians.

There is no HARM in being Mormon, just like there is no harm in being Catholic, Buddhist, or Jewish. I think that if you truly believe in your faith, and follow it closely, then you are a better person for it. Any faith, like the Mormon faith, that teaches you to be a better person, to love other people, to love and respect God, to treat others how you would want to be treated, to follow the laws of the land, can not be any harm, but in fact can be very good.

The danger of being a mormon is eternal separation from God.
I actually believe Jesus may very well have come to America, I have native Christians friends (i.e. not mormons) who tell me the story has been passed down that he did.
Don't know what a "lamanite" is
The harm in believing God was once a man who got Godhood for his work is that the Bible doesn't say he was or even infer it. It's a false belief that is separating him from you.
The bible doesn't tell me that salvation occurs for mormons since they are wrong in their belief in God. This scripture tells where the idea that Jesus wasn't God comes from: 1John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. 2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that [spirit] of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
EDIT: To Blondie, my problem with the book of mormon isn't so much that it came after the rest of the bible (and btw, I agree John was referring to his prophecy), but that it's in error. By teaching Jesus is not God, it's true source is revealed by John in 1 John 4.

I disagree with the above statement that because the Book of Mormon came after the compilation of the Holy Bible that it is not true. What we know today as the bible is in fact a compilation of many books that were written separate from each other and compiled centuries latter by monks who found them. The curse in Revelation 22:19 pertains only to the book of Revelation. There is a similar passage in the Old Testement. In John 10:16 Christ states "...Other sheep I have that are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold and one shepherd." The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints or Mormons do not profess to add to the bible, but present the Book of Mormon as the ancient record of those "other sheep" who were located in the Americas. It is no subsitute for the wisdom and teachings contained in the Holy Bible but simply and plainly another witness to the devinity of Jesus Christ. Further more to those discaliming the LDS faith for not worshipping God and Jesus, please get your facts straight! We are called the Church of JESUS CHRIST! We do not worship Mormon or Joseph Smith, we believe both to have been prophets, like Moses and Abraham, nothing more. We also do not believe that if you don't belong to our faith you will go to hell (so please stop saying we will because unless you have spoken with deity lately you have no proof of that) We believe that many plain and simple truths were lost after the Death of Christ and that those truths have been restored in our day through revelation. For us revelation is not something one reads about in the scriptures alone. We are guided by a living prophet who is inspired by a loving God and Savior. All religions have some truth and none is completely wrong. Our faith just believes that we have been able to recieve the fullness of the truth in our day. There is no harm in having a testimony of the living gosple. I have one and I will answer to my God at the last day and I hope, as people of all Christian faiths hope, he will look on me and say "well done thou good and faithful servant..."

I agree with you 100%. But I think it applies to every religion. That's what I don't get about people. Jesus died for us all. God loves us all. Won't they see that we did our best? I do not believe in a punitive God.
I am LDS and I've come to this exact conclusion myself. I believe my religion to be true, but if it happens not to be, I don't think God will punish me for trying to follow what I thought was the way He wanted me to follow.
EDIT: Come on people, revelations was not written last in the books of the bible. It was simply placed in the back of the book. It doesn't say not to add anything to the bible because when revelations was written, the bible didn't exist yet! It was separate scrolls. Rev 22:18 refers to the scrolls that revelations was written on.

Galatians 1:6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:
7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.
8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.
9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
Take a good look at the gospel that Mormons are preaching. It is much, much different from the gospel that Paul preached.
There is no archaeological evidence for the people that Joseph Smith said existed. There were no "magical" glasses that were used to decipher plates with hieroglyphic writing on them.
Take a close look.

John 4:23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for such the Father seeks to worship him. RSV
If you have all these fables as part of your religion, would it be considered truth? I think not, so your worship would be in vain.
Mt 7:21 Not everyone who says to me, Lord, Lord, shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. RSV
This scripture more or less indicates that not all worshippers are approved of by Jesus and Jehovah.

If Baptists are wrong, what's the harm?
What's the harm in believing in spontaneous salvation?
What's the harm in believing you can still sin after you think you are saved.
No harm, unless it's helping Satan with his project -- and I'm sure you know what that is.

The way to heaven is to believe that Jesus died on the cross to save you from your sins, therefore (WHOLE-HEARTEDLY) accepting HIM as your Lord and Savior!! So........If you believe that this occured and that HE is the Living God, then by all means...you are heaven bound!! If not, I pray that you find out, soon!!!
