NTSC 60GB or 20GB is the best backwards compatibility console (it has Emotion Engine chip) - can play almost oall of old games. 80GB version run old games not on chip, but hardware, around 80% of old games can be played. 40GB can't play PS2 games, only PS1 games can be played. Шап you live in Europe or Oceania - 60GB is the same as 80GB (there were no Emotion Engine chip since the beginning).

Yes all the models have a backward compatibility feature except then 40 GB one. This allows the PS3 to play PS2 and PS1 games. But for european playstations there is a certain number of games which you can play(around 1000 of them!) You have to check it out on their site the games you can play.

Yes but u will need to update ur new bought ps3 by connecting it to the internet and downloading the latest firmware, it will add more features to ur ps3 and also improve its backward playing compatibility.
