they usually check it to make sure that nothing is broken, then they wrap it with an ace bandage and tell you to go home and keep off of it and keep it elevated for a few days. sometimes they might give you an Rx for painkillers and sometimes they will tell you to just take OTC painkillers. Usually you will be off of it for at least 2 weeks depending on the severity of the sprain.

They wrap it and put ice on it, i guess. I'm not sure. I've never been to the doctor when I got a sprained ankle, I just wrapped it.

When my son had a sprained ankle he was given crutches, told to keep it wrapped tight, elevate with ice a night. Take ibuprofen.

They also generally wrap it with an ace bandage
