...also could be a circulatory problem....pinched nerves...injury..... There are so many questions to be asked of your mother regarding her symptoms...age, daily activities, past medical history, recent illness or injuries, current medications, etc., in order to "diagnose" . She really needs to be assessed by a physician. There are many different things this could be, and a full assessment of your mother needs to be done. Encourage her to go to her doctor. It may be something easily taken care of, but the longer she waits, it could lead to a more difficult, or possibly an uncorrectable problem.

it could be a number of things from a simple histamine allergy to a rheumatoid arthritis condition. Diagnosing without physically seeing the patient nore acknowledging patients family/medical history and patient information can lead to a wrong diagnosis.
best bet is to seek medical attention.

Take your mom to a doctor as soon as possible. If she has chest pain, shortness of breath, fever or is confused, call an ambulance and take her to the ER (A&E in the UK).
