Esbilac. Buy the canned liquid not the powder, the powder is impossible to mix. NO REAL MILK OF ANY KIND!! Not the stuff you drink. ONLY puppy replacer formula. She might drink it from a saucer at this point. Yes, you can use Nutrical they have a special formula for puppies, make sure that's the one you get. Follow the dosing on the tube. In 1-2 weeks you can start mixing some canned food into the milk, around 6 weeks you can put her onto just canned food, 7 weeks mix in some dry food to the wet, and by 8-10 weeks she should eat nothing but dry food. You can continue with the Nutrical up to 16 weeks if needed.

If the puppy isn't eating well at any stage, you can continue with the previous stage longer, i.e. keep the formula to 6 weeks, or later, keep the canned only later, etc. A puppy that small needs to eat every few hours, so don't hold out for her to move up a step, just keep her eating.

Feed your puppy every 4-5 hours with an appropriate puppy milk formula. Frequent feedings are required to prevent low blood sugars which can lead to seizures.
Please see a vet and set up a vaccination schedule and get books on socialization for your dog.
Puppies should NOT be taken away from their mother and litter until at least 9 weeks, preferably 12 weeks.
If you find looking after the puppy too much, please take it to a rescue, don't just dump it.

This pup is to young to be awy from its mother. Don't feed it ANY type of milk or dairy products. Feed a quality puppy food that is soggy enough for the pup to eat.provide plenty of water at all times and for god sakes.. don't get a puppy so young again. This pups life is at risk and you are sure to encounter several behavioral issues too since he was not allowed to learn from his mother and littermates.

I agree.. no nutrical.. Spend your money on quality food and skip the vitamin.

I had earlier stated that Nutrical was found to have lead in it by an independant labratory study.. I retract that info.. It was PET TABS http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16655168/

do not give your puppy milk or any other "people product". They make a puppy milk replacer formula that you can even get at Walmart- or any pet store. They also have special bottles and nipples for that purpose, although at 4 weeks your puppy is about ready to be able to drink from a bowl and eat softened (with water or formula) puppy food. Good Luck

People drink people milk
Cows drink cows milk
Horses drink horse milk
Dogs drink dogs milk get the idea?
Why would you give anyone or anything Nutri-Cal? isn't there a lot of unnatural ingredients in that stuff????
I suggest that you farm out the pup to a nursing dog before you do it more harm than good.

Why would you bring an animal to live with you, without having any idea to take care of it?

Also, isn't 4 weeks a little young? It should probably be sucking it's mom's teats... I guess it doesn't matter now, because it lives with you, and you obviously will make a *great* pet owner.

please tell me you found this dog somewhere in the street and did not purchase it from some moron breeder. this puppy needs to be with its mother. if that is not possible, get some puppy replacer milk. you can try making a gruel out of puppy milk and canned puppy food. at this age puppy might drink some on its own, and yes you can give nutri cal.

don't feed it cow's milk (like the milk we drink) - dogs can't digest it and it will give the pup diarrhea. you need to go and get a puppy formula --they usually sell these at any generic pet store - PetCo, PetSmart, etc.

Puppy's should be with their mother up to 9 weeks. Your taking a risk. Call the vet. and ask them. You don't want that puppy to get sick and die. Call the vet.
