Hemoglobin is part of the red blood cells -- it's the protein in the blood that carries the oxygen to other parts of the body. Lots of things could effect the hemoglobin levels -- including medications, vitamins, or illnesses.

The doctor will inevitably run more test (probably liver and kidney function, iron, iron binding capacity). . . to determine a cause for your low hemoglobin, if s/he feels it's a concern.

It's a form of anemia. You will probably feel tired, and if it's severe, you could get out of breath easily. Eat red meats or take iron supplements. Also Vitamin C will help you utilize the iron.
