We did the Chichen Itza tour while on a stay in Cancun and we loved it. But, like one person has said, you have to want to go see something historical to enjoy it. Its not like snorkeling or jet skiing or going on a dune buggy ride. When you go there you will walk through a huge park preserve on grass and gravel pathways and look at the ruins as you hear the interpretive talk of your guide. There are placed where you can go through the inside of the ruins and you can climb up the main pyramid. That pyramid is very high and also very steel and the steps are narrow. There is no railing but on one side there is a rope to assist in going up and down. Many people would sit on a step and go up or down sitting on a step at a time because it is so steep.

The trip to Chichen Itza is about an hour and a half from Cancun by bus on a main highway. The bus was comfortable and air conditioned. That was good because it was very hot and humid when we did this tour. If you cruise stops in Cozumel but not Cancun you will have a ferry/boat ride to Cancun before the bus ride and that may take an hour. So it is an all day trip if you stop in Cozumel to go there.

I have been to Cozumel several times on cruises and other than it having a few good beaches and great snorkel and scuba areas I didn't find much else to see or that I was interested in doing. On one trip we took a tour around the whole island and didn't see anything we would want to go back to see again, other than a couple beaches.

I have never done the ATV jungle tour because I would prefer to do water sports things rather than drive around an arid area.

The ruins are about a 6 hour bus ride from Cancun, so you really have to want to go.
You might want to try Tulum first. Its about 1 hour from Cancun and a lot smaller, but is on the ocean, so you can go for a swim. If Tulum sparks your interest, then chichen itza may be worth the trip.

Yes, it will be hot.

We did a cruise to Cozumel 2 years ago and did the snorkel and dune buggy combo excursion. It was so much fun, We drove around the entire island, there were about 25 dune buggies and it was a lot of fun driving them around the city. and the best was they stopped on this beautiful beach and cooked us lunch in a canoe. Played volleyball. And snorkeled too! And it all ended at Carlos and Charlies. We all arrived back at the ship with balloon hats. Skip the ruins Do the dune buggies You won't regret it.
