i have a 5 month old puppy and when she hears the sound of paper crackling she runs away. What could have caused this and how can i fix her fear?

first when the puppy is acting afraid, do not baby it, as that will re-enforce that behavior. i would have some one crackle paper and with the dog on leash acting as if it is nothing new. just relax and hold the leash kind of close the dogs neck not too much slack, and start walking toward the person. start a few driveways from the person so it starts not so loud and then go keepmoving right past the person and keep doing it until it is no big deal to the dog either. good luck

There are lots of things that can frighten pups. It could be that sound is similar to something the pup was frightened by before. You can desensitize some pups by having the pup relaxed with someone on the floor with it and someone make a short crackling sound and keep talking and let the pup hear that sound but be soothed by who ever is good with the pup after a short while the pup is distracted by the person with it and the noise is just short crackling and that lets the pup hear the sound but it feels protected and learns that sound won't hurt her and that should help the get rid of the terror. This worked for me before and might for you.

Sounds like someone may have spanked her with a paper. If you can hold her while reading the paper or some one else gently shakes it she'll feel safer and be more comfortable. Also, put crinkled paper(it will make noise as she walks on it) on the floor, set her food and water bowls on it, it shouldn't take to long before its no longer threatening. Hope this helps. Good Luck and God Bless.

It could be she may have been hit with a role of newspaper and she remembers. Or she's just very sensitive. Try laying paper out and walk away and see if she approaches it. See what she does. Let her tear it up just to regain her confidence. Maybe she just doesn't know what it is. Just like baby's . It's unfamiliar to them. Introduce the paper to her some how. Enjoy your puppy and give her plenty of hugs and kisses. I think that's sweet
