I had a 1987 Nissan Maxima that had about 165,000 miles on it when I sold it. We never had the problem you describe, but at a time not too far before that mileage, Nissan recalled all Maximas because of a fuel injector problem. They replaced all ours and it ran like a rocket. I'm sorry I have no specific answer for you. I wish you the best. God Bless you.

Replace belts, while it is screeching spray water on belts with windex bottle if it stops or changes you have confirmed its a belt. You could also try taking a color crayon and putting some on belt side that hits pulley if noise goes away its belt,do this with engine shut off and keys out of ignition

the squeal is a belt. the reason probably is that a drip of oil is landing on the belt when your car is parked, hence it spins dry after a few rfevolutions and goes quiet. investigate your parking floor for sign of oil drip passenger side about in from your front wheel. if there's an oil spot, you've got to get that fixed. fools you. you think the belt is the problem but it's not.

Likely that your water pump is spinning it's bearings; squeaking like crazy, till it can get up to speed. It'll need replacing, cause it'll start to leak in the not-too-distant future. A loose belt squeel doesn't often go away after starting. Belt dressing may help hide the symptom, but the problem is increased belt drag due to non-round bearings. That added tension will cause belt slip, but it isn't gonna fix anything permanently.

Good Luck!

BTW Johnny M's guess that it's your ' transmission belt' is pretty laughable-your tranny doesn't use belts to run.

Where is the noise coming from? Have someone start it for you and see if you can locate the noise.

It could be simple like fan belt issues or it could be your starter is starting to let go.

Good luck!
