His cage is definitely not too big. I've read all the other questions/answers on here but non of them fit my situation. If anything he'll need a bigger cage in about a month. He goes outside just fine when he's out there, but still comes inside to his cage and acts like he can't hold it. I just can't stand the smell and he loves to eat it too. With how much he goes out side, this shouldn't justify this behavior.

Change his food. It is to cheap and has to many grains in it which = large volumes of waste. Also take him out more often. Choose a food with no more then 2 grains listed in the first 5 ingredients and you won't find it at Walmart or the grocery store or the vets office. Look at a pet store. When his food is better he should only go once or twice a day and small amounts of darker colored waste.
Cheap food is not saving money. It creates large vet bills eventually. Feed him the best you can buy.

Make sure you're giving him plenty of time to eliminate outside. Otherwise, he is probably bored and anxious about being crated. You need to start putting his food and water bowls in his crate, and when it's time to feed him, put the food and water at the back of the crate so he has to eat and drink inside of it. At the front of the crate, put down a towel for him to sleep on. This should help him cope and learn to see his crate as something positive.

However, we tried this with one of our dogs who had the same behavior problems yours does, and it didn't work. We finally solved the problem by getting another dog. My dog was incredibly lonely, and having a companion cured him. Of course now we're stuck with two dogs, but we love them and they're a lot of fun.

I have to say good for you for actually trying to find an answer on here first!

Is the dogs poop hard solid or soft? The reason I as is that you said he comes inside to his cage and acts like he can't hold it. My puppy had parasites so even though we'd go out and she'd poop, she'd come in and poop on the floor shortly after. She also was pooping in her crate because she really couldn't hold it. As her poop has hardened after treatment she really doesn't have indoor issues unless I miss the cue to take her out now.

It's something to look into if his stool is not hard.

You should have him for an exam to rule out medical problems that may be causing this. A dog with a medical issue, such as a UTI for example can be near impossible to train until the medical issue cleared up.

Several times a day. How long is he in the cage. Keep him outside until he finishes.

My great pyranees puppy is using the restroom in his kennel. I've taken him to the vet and he is very healthy. Is it normal for them to lay in their pee and poop? He's taken out often but i can't seem to get a handle on this??? Please help
