No they would have hanged him too, if he had tried; during the mob hysteria, questioning witchcraft or the accusations was considered proof one was also a witch.

However the Charmed Ones could have saved them; I know because I saw that on television. Why didn't they save them all, eh? Why only their own ancestress???

No, he may know about modern science but I bet he hasn't a clue about what life was like in Salem back then; he would be like an orchestra conductor trying to design a bridge, smart but with the wrong expertise for the job.
Likewise, the people of Salem wouldn't have had a clue what he was talking about, if he did try to explain why the defendants couldn't be witches.
Cotton Mather, a contemporary Puritan and a scientist too, could have explained it to them to their satisfaction, if he had been called upon. He believed that witches existed, but he wouldn't have been persuaded by the evidence in Salem.

Only if he himself did not get accused of being a witch as well. Most of it was based on hysteria, with very little actual evidence.

no, he would have been burned at the stake like all the others...can you imagine what the salem fathers would think of a man who could explain earth's gravtitational field and sunspots?...lol...
