Vegetables or foliage plants grow best in blue spectrum light. Blue 400-475nm especially about 430 - 450nm.
Flowering plants grow best in red-orange grow light. Red spectra is 580-700nm with 585 - 660 nm being the best for many plant's growth. Green light is reflected so is not critical for growth.

I think what you're looking for is the absorbence or action spectrum of chlorophyll, or perhaps whole plants. Take a look here:

Try a blacklight. I have always heard they are great to use.
