Lol, yep even when I open the card from my son, I gingerly, slowly open it so I got spot where the tenner lands when it falls out!
Of course there never is a tenner in there but sometimes the anticipation of it is better than actually getting one!

I agree with Eidrib and Eric. I am over joyed to get a card from someone I love. I save the card for ever. money! I don't want money. I just want to hear from them, when I get a card I am wishing they could fall out so I could spend the day with them. the rest of you are materilist and very sad. do you not care for the person at all? do you just want the money? when they are gone you will wish you could get cards saying "love, Mom" and forget the damn money.

Never...never, ever!! The only thing I expect in a birthday card, if I am lucky enough to get one, is a sentiment from the giver's heart.
YOU ARE ALL VERY, VERY LUCKY!!!
Scenario:
My family during a special ocassion, say....me and my husband's wedding:
Card from Grandma & Grandpa contains--nice verse.
Gift from same Grandma & Grandpa--$25.00 cream and sugar set from Pier 1. Gramps only ever gave us kids $10.00 in our Christmas envelope every year. No birthday money at all.
It gets worse. I have not recieved even a birthday gift from my parents in 25 years, nor from my brother, or sister, grandparents, and closest aunt. According to my Dad, he proclaimed that since we are all adults now, nobody needs to buy anybody anything for ocassions because "we are all working adults." End of it.

Your absolutely right! This one time someone sent me a card and I opened it and there was nothing in it. I thought I dropped it so I started looking on the floor...the person who gave me the card was in the room! It was extremely awkward! So I never expect anything more than a card! ;)

When I was younger my mom and dad would always send $100 and as they became older, I would receive the card, but no money. Yes, I was disappointed. Now, I enjoy getting just the card.

I for sure expect some amount of money to come out! Then when it doesn't I read it and I'm like, "aww, thats a sweet card..." && even though it is a sweet card, I'm a little sad...cuz I'm still poor. Haha...

I don't think I've ever had money in a card, so no, I don't expect it! Very few people I know send money by mail, I was always taught not to send money in regular mail 'cause it could get stolen.

We've been conditioned to expect it. My family was always poor, but I at least got a couple of bucks in cards. And yes, I still expect it. :)

Yeah, I know what you mean. And, if you're home alone you probably also shake the card and peek inside the envelope, too, right?
