Do they know? Not always...
Should they? Absolutely!
If they don't know the location, they should at least know the number to call to find the closest emergency clinic! Most regular vet clinics provide these numbers. (Mine provides it right on the front door, so you can find it, even if the clinic is closed!)

I can name 5 vets within a 30 mile range of me which all offer 24/7 emergency care with just a simple phone call.
I can name 3 clinics in an hours drive to handle whatever the other 5 can't.
For example if the dog needed intensive care, one of the 5 would stabilize the dog so it could be transported, and then send them to one of the three. Simply because while they are there for emergencies, and can handle pretty much everything, they just don't keep staff on 24/7 like the other 3.

My mom improve right into a RN at a Psychiatric well being facility for extremely almost 30 years. After 18 years of training center college, I now prepare at a Residential treatment center (a while 10-17), that is a go between a psych well being facility and shield detention. i admire animals, and it could be too tense to make sure abused animals further in. . . SO, i will say Psychiatric well being facility.

I totally agree! We are about 45 minutes from our closest emergency vet center, but we've gotten their quicker! When we brought my now 8 month old lab mix home at noon from animal control, I noticed he was coughing horribly by nine that evening. We rushed him to the animal hospital and they confirmed kennel cough. I am SO happy that we knew where to take him, or he would've died that night!
People need to know where to take their animals when they are sick...you know where your nearest human ER is, don't you?

No I don't really because the closest one to me is over 2 hours away. One could've come in handy many many times though. And none of the vets like to be on call either.

I know where 3 of them are - each 20-40 minutes away. The closest one is the best and the most expensive one.

Not everyone does their homework. Maybe that is why we have so many animals in shelters.
My vet clinic gave us a magnet with the number to the emergency clinic and they have the number on their voice mail. That magnet came in handy this summer when my kitty had vestibular disease and was not eating or drinking for several days. She went down hill rapidly on a Saturday night. (They never go down hill rapidly during regular office hours!)

I know I do and ours is 30 minutes away but we have made it in about 20 when we had a sick dog. I wish there was more than one as this one isn't the best. Our vet will come out if he is in town when we need him but he is out of town often, specially on the weekends.

Yes, absolutely know it!!
about questions here being ridiculous: i doubt that they can't find the emergency clinic number (considering that they manage to find yahoo answers online) they are just to cheap / stupid / irresponsible to spend the money and take their dog to the clinic.

I don't know about most people, but I know where the closest emergency vet place is in my area.
If people don't, they should....
