I became lactose intolerant a couple years ago. At first I was fine after eliminating milk and ice cream from my diet. Over time it's gotten worse and have had to cut out all types of cheese, sour cream, cream cheese, ranch dressing, anything made with powdered milk like cocoa mix or boxed macaroni and cheese. I've tried lactaid and lactose-free milk and get the same symptoms (nausea, bloating, stomach ache). Can anyone suggest what might be wrong since lactose intolerance isn't the full issue? Because even dairy without any lactose or with lactase additives to help digest it still makes me sick. I know I need to stick to a very strict diet but its really hard since so many things are made with whey, milk solids, powdered milk, etc.

It sounds more like milk allergy than lactose intolerance. Lactaid has no lactose in it.

There is a soy alternative for pretty much every dairy product: soy milk, soy yogurt, soy cheese, etc. If powdered milk goves you problems, you have to do some research to figure out which foods do not have milk, and which foods you can make from scratch to not have milk in them. There are some things you should substitute, like using vinaigrette instead of ranch dressing, or making pasta with tomato sauce instead of macaroni and cheese. In general, you will have to rely less on processed foods in your diet, and make your food from scratch.

You may be allergic to "milk protein". In which case you should eliminate anything that says "Casein". In it. My sister has the same problem as you.
I am lactose intolerant, and Lactaid is fine for me. You can also try rice milk, or soy milk. staying away from dairy completely. It's a hard thing to get used to. I am allergic to all the major food groups. Dairy makes me itch. And makes me bloated/stomach ache/heartburn too.

Stay away from dairy. I'm lactose intolerant. I stayed away for a year, now I can have dairy once in a while. Try Silk Soy milk. They have it plain, choc, and van. It's Delicious. Even Rice Dream is good. You may be surprised. Best of luck to you.

You may have to stay away from milk all together.

You can try Rice Milk or Almond Milk Beverage. Even though they are called milk they are a non dairy beverage. They both come in vanilla flavors too.

You can find them at Wild Oats or Whole Health.

You could also mix powdered milk which is non dairy and refrigerate it.

Lactose is a disaccharide (sugar) in milk or milk products. When broken down by the body it yields glucose and galactose. Bacteria converts those products into lactic and butyric acids which can causes milk to sour.The acids are also used in making tablets because it does not dissolve in water.Your intolerance may come from meds instead of milk.

Ganeden Digestive Advantage for lactose intolerance. Is usually next to Lactaid and u only need it once a day!

My daughter has the same problems for YEARS and they never figured it out. Leave it to good ole mom. She is allergic to WHOLE MILK. She can eat whatever she wants, but she cannot drink milk of ANY kind. She takes a calcium suppliment everyday. Now she can eat just about anything. It's the way the food is processed. there is something in it, never found out what.
