Also, if I were asking this in German, would I say "Was bedeutet 'gibt' auf Englisch?"...or "Wie sagt man 'gibt' auf Englisch?"... Or are they both correct?

"Gibt" usually means "gives" (see conjugation below), but an important usage is "es gibt," which means"there is" or "there are," as in "Es gibt drei Kirchen in dem Dorf." (There are three churches in the village.)

Conjugation:
ich gebe - I give
du gibst - you give
er/sie/es gibt - he/she/it gives
wir geben - we give
ihr gebt - you give
sie geben - they give
Sie geben - you give
Note that the second-person plural form is ihr gebt.

I think both of your suggested questions are okay; I would probably say "Was heißt 'gibt' auf Englisch?"

PS Sorry, guys, the 2nd-person INFORMAL plural form IS "ihr gebt." Look it up if you aren't sure:http://dict.leo.org/ende?lp=ende&p=hPXz..&search=geben
If you are speaking formally, use "Sie geben" to one person or to more than one.

A lot of answers so far - and a lot of truth in all of them - so here a short summary:

The translations:
I would use:
Was bedeutet "gibt" auf Englisch. or
Was heißt "gibt" auf Englisch.
your second translation:
Wie sagt man "gibt" auf Englisch would also work.

gibt is 3rd pers. sg. of the verb "geben"

ich gebe - du gibst - er/sie/es gibt
wir geben - ihr gebt - sie geben

The formal/polite "Sie" or also "Du" with capital letter is only used in direct speech or letters (and on signs - which are a form of direct speech as well).

"gibt" is the third form (he/she/it) of the verb "geben" = " to give" in English."hoptoad" is wrong about the conjugation, it goes as follows:

ich gebe = I give
du gibst = you give
er/sie/das gibt = he/she/it gives
wir geben = we give
ihr gibt = you give (you say this to more people than one and you are formal)
sie geben = they give
Sie geben = you give ( formal for a person you don´t call by the first name)

Es gibt = there is/ there are. For instance: es gibt eine Sprache = there is one language, es gibt viele Sprachen = the are many languages.

Your both questions are correct!

Geben Conjugation

"Gibt" is a form of the verb "geben" (in English, "to give").
ich gebe - i give
du gibst - you give
**er gibt - he gives**
**es gibt - it gives**
**sie gibt - she gives**
wir geben - we give
**ihr gibt - you give**
sie geben - they give

"Was bedeutet 'gibt' auf Englisch" and "Wie sagt man 'gibt' auf English" are both correct.

Geben can also be used along with other words to slightly change its meaning (so it no longer means "to give"). See http://dict.leo.org/ende?lp=ende&lang=de&searchLoc=0&cmpType=relaxed§Hdr=on&spellToler=on&search=geben&relink=on for details.

1) "Der Bankkaufmann" means "Banker" in English. 2) "Bankkaufmann von Beruf" means "Banker by/of profession". 3) "Aber in zwei Wochen zieht er um" means "But in two weeks he moves" in English. Out of context "zieht" means "pulls". "Zieht" is also the third person singular which is he/she/one in present tense. The infinitive is "ziehen" which is to pull or in this case move house/apartment. 4) "Dann hat er selbst eine Wohnung" means "Then he has an apartment" in English. "Selbst" has various meanings. It mainly refers to "even" or "alone" but can also be a pronoun, such as "myself", "yourself", "himself", "ourselves", etc. (So, "self"). Literally, the whole paragraph means: "This is Michael (22), he is a banker by profession. Now he lives with his parents. But in two weeks he will move around. Then he will have an apartment." 5) "Die Wohnung hat einen Hobbyraum?" means "The apartment has a hobby room?" 6) A "Hobbyraum" or "Hobby room" is used for leisures and hobbies. 7) "Gästezimmer" means "Guest room" or "spare room", so if you have a visitor they can use this room.
