Do you put in the ice cream or root beer first when making a root beer float?

I put the root beer in first because if you try to pour it over ice cream it will fizz up over the rim of the glass very quickly.

You need to put the ice cream in first. By doing this you will create a "crust" of root-beer when pouring the liquid on the ice cream. This is the best part. Unfortunately I am unable to eat ice cream as of late so I will only imagine how good this will be.

Ice cream first, to make a foundation of flavor at the bottom of the glass. Root Beer next, for the foam and liquid refreshment. Ultimately, you'll end up with a cool, frosty treat!

Hmm, for me, I will put the root beer first, so when you put the ice cream later you can see the effect that ice cream really float and you can start sucking the foam.. yummy...

I doubt that there is a set rule, but my mom always poured rootbeer until glass half full, then added a scoop or two of ice cream, followed by root beer the rest of the way.
No matter how you made it - it will be yummy! Enjoy!

Put the ice cream in first then the fizz in the pop brings that ice cream into the the taste of the fizz.

i'd always put root beer in until it was halfway full, then the ice cream so it doesn't overflow and make a mess! then, i put in however much more you'd like in the glass. ENJOY!!!!!
