I never talk about clothes with the guys. Or who is sleeping with whom. All the months at sea we never talked about fashion - except skirts being better short.

I don't think it is a matter of discrepancy, I think it is a matter of intent. Women seem to find something fun about hearing about how others have fallen or who is doing what with who and it seems to take on it's own life. I find most of that is due to women's inherent insecurities with themselves and there ease of hording jealousy while wishing to seem above it. Men usually are simply asking out of politeness, with exceptions of course. By the way I am a woman and have been known to gossip so I am not placing myself above anyone else in that aspect.

The discrepancy is there simply because people believe that when women talk to each other they talk about other's misdeeds. Which is not true! But who's going to believe us?
According to them men only talk about cars and gadgets, and pardon me for saying this, sex. Which is probably not true either. But who's going to admit they don't talk about gadgets, but do in fact talk about a colleague who's fallen from grace?
Having said that people are changing, unfortunately it's a very slow process.

Because men talk of they've done and are interested in what their friends have to say about their experiences. It's been my observation that women talk about what other people have done and criticize, condemn and compare to show how much better they are.

Good question! Men seem to have a whole new way of defining things when it relates to women.

There's no discrepancy, there's only semantics and aspirations to victimhood and blame

Men tend to talk about themselves, women tend to talk about everyone else.
No chauvinism, just an observation.

Its a double standard, isn't it? Men can talk just as much as we do, yet they say we talk too much.
