we live in a million dollar house in fairfield county, ct. they make 250,000plus a year. we have a summer house worth 750,000, a house in florida, and a house in colorado, and a timeshare in maui and hawaii. and yet, we are "broke"
yesterday was homecoming, and we didnt even have fifteen dollars for me to get my eyebrows done. i had to collect quarters and pennies from my backpack and pants pockets and turn them into coinstar.
my parents say they've hit a "rough patch". but we've never sunk so low as having to collect pennies to feed ourselves.
what do i do? my parents are reckless and irresponsible and last year they forgot to send my sister money (she was in college in canada) and she almost starved to death and the doctors thought she was anorexic.
ahhh help this is no joke
WHAT THE H E L L do i do???

Aww, poor thing. Sittin' there in your million dollar house and you don't know how to do your own eyebrows. I wish I was "broke" like you are.

You need to worry about things other than getting your eyebrows done. Get a job and help your parents out. Then suggest that they sell several of the surplus homes, or at least rent them out. If you see any money management courses offered locally, let your parents know. Tell them you're worried about your sister eating properly. Tell a friend's parents what is going on. It sounds like your parents have more financial problems than you can help them with.
That 15 bucks you spent on your eyebrows probably would have gone a long way in feeding your sister. That's alot of ramen noodles.

They could have very well hit a rough patch - especially if they are in housing developements. If your sister is in college, she can get a job and help out with her expenses. As for getting yoru eyebrows done - not necessary. See what you can do to help out.

My god, at least you have a house. Maybe your parents really are in a rough patch right now and they're trying to save money so they won't lose the house that you live in.

there is nothing you can do about your parents' mismanagement of money. if they have that many homes, $250,000 a year isn't going to cover it.
they are living way beyond their means....
you can't dictate what your parents do, but this is a lesson learned -- don't overspend and buy all sorts of things if you can't afford it and if it leaves no money to spend on daily living.
take care and maybe they will sell something, like a couple of their homes?

Your parents are earning the money. Why do you feel 'entitled' to criticize how they spend it? You don't know EVERYTHING that's going on in your parent's finances.
Even though you're only 14 you could babysit, walk dogs, pet sit,,, there's always someway for you to earn your own money.

Have a garage sale. Tell your parents they should consider selling one or two of their houses since they are in need of money.

Yeah your parents sound like they need to sell one of their properties how many properties does one family need. I feel sorry for you because you are used to this lifestyle it is not your fault your parents make stupid financial decisions but I think you need to re evaluate what to spend your money on.

It's a great feelling to be able to take care of yourself....

Why don't they sell one of those homes? Maybe they're more concerned with keeping up with the Jones' they aren't making smart financial decisions.
