Personally, I think it means eternal separation from God. I believe it is a place, too. I don't think it is a pit of fire, though.

I see it as a place where one is separated from God. When one is no longer under his protection. I also feel that it is a place of a rather warm nature=) It is where the devil can and will do things to torment you for his own amusement and for the amusement of the other demons and angels that fell from God's grace with him. There people will be forced to endure pain and suffering, and will call and cry out for God but God will not hear them or their cries for help. Hell can also be a state of mind in this life as well, but that is getting very philosophical. So yes I see hell as a real place that is or will be a pit of fire where one will have to suffer for the remainder of eternity. All that just because someone refused to seek God, try and get to know Him and believe in Jesus as the son of God, and that he died for our sins. In doing that he/she has turned their back on God and made Him mad and hurt His feelings. I mean man was created to socialize with God and to get to know Him. It would be like if you had a very close friend and you would do anything in the world for them, or a family member you love more than anything. Then they refused to talk to you, or even acknowledge you were alive. Yet you saw them everyday, and when you saw them doing something that would hurt them they looked at you like you were crazy and ignored what you said to them even though you were trying to look out for them. Then after a long period of time say a few years of this, you finally give up on them and no longer keep in touch with them, or are there to hear them when they need your help and advise. That's what hell is, it is the place one will go away from God after they die if they do not believe in him or think he is real and do not listen to his advise. So hell can be both a metaphor and a real pit of fire. In the metaphor idea, hell is not doing what God asks you to do. It is saying to Him, I will do this my own way and without any advise or help from you. Then when one tries to control and manipulate their own life they only make their life worse. This just keeps going until one excepts God, and Jesus as the Savior. Then prays to Him, reads the bible and studies it and asks God for His help in understanding things or parts of it that one does not. Then when thinking and meditating upon His word and taking time to listen to God speaking to your heart. Then life gets better and is no longer a living hell. =)

A real pit of fire. The Bible says hells fire is 10 times hotter than any fire known to man, where there is walling and gnashing of teeth. But, hells fire will not burn you up, for it is for punishment, not death.

Mormons interprete "hell" as a place without God. It is the location of the dwelling place of Satan and his followers, the place where God is not. Therefore, without God, it is literally a hell as the inhabitants of hell cannot feel the light, joy, glory of God.

I don't worry too much about exactly what it's like... all I know, is that it's not somewhere I would want to be. I do know that it will be a place lacking God's presence and that it will be a place of great eternal suffering.

Don: lol. in simple terms suited answer. To the question-asker: None of it. assorted it improve into as quickly as written as a metaphor. distinctive comments are fables--it is, fairy thoughts with a ethical on the end. a guy or lady is meant to be experienced training by employing employing taking the comments as an entire, now no longer by employing blindly believing each and each sentence or taking it as "gospel." (Little pun, there.) The Bible improve into as quickly as written by employing people, and people are fallible. for this reason, believing interior the Bible as literal actuality is silly at severe-high quality--and idiotic at worst.
