I use both wet and dry. I'm not so sure it really matters what the texture is, but it does matter what the ingredients are!! I use Innova EVO red meat - canned food and dry food!! I have been studying up on dog foods and what the ingredients are (for at least 3 weeks) and I have found that this brand is really a good one!!

* I use Eukanuba dry for my dogs! It costs a bit more but is a good quality! I also cut turkey or a bit of cheese up to stir into the dry as both dogs are quite thin and elderly! The *human* food is added with the advice of our veterinarian!

This is the third time I've copied and pasted this answer:)
There isn't necessarily any 'best' brand of dog food, and canned or dry is a personal preference (though I can tell you canned tends to be more expensive, and kibble is good in that you can leave it down all day without it going bad) There are a lot of good foods out there. What you really want to look for is quality - read the ingredient list. If the first ingredient isn't 100% meat (chicken, lamb, duck, etc), then give it a pass. Avoid foods with lots of fillers (whey, wheat, corn, etc) - this tends to be found in a lot of name brands. Go to a specialty store for better quality foods. Look for fewer, better quality ingredients, like fresh fruits and vegetables. if you can, find a food that suits the life stage and size of your pet. I happen to feed my dog Wellness and Merrick's wet, and I can tell you, all the ingredients in those foods are recognizable to me (no strange chemical-sounding stuff), and ingredients I would eat myself (I swear, if I heated up a can of Merricks and served it to my guests, they wouldn't know it was dog food;) Remember, crap in, crap out. Good luck!

Dry unless your dog has an illness like kidney disease, or just doesn't drink enough.
Dry food has more nutrients and is better for their teeth. Wet/canned food is 75% water and doesn't stay fresh long. Canned has more protein, but too much protein can lead to pancreaitis.

Dry food is better for cleaning the dogs teeth. I like to mix dry with canned, the dogs really like it. Science Diet is one healthy food. My vet calls it a "super food."

generally dry. it has much less spoilage, usually more nutrients by weight, and is far less messy
please be sure to choose at least a decent dog food. for those on a tight budget, i would recommend pedigree. some other foods are better. but i recommend not using anything of a lower quality than that (such as generic dog foods)

Either. Depends on the ingredients. This is an excellent article re dog foods. Gives one some food for thought.

Depends on your dog. A toy or miniature is better off with mostly canned. Anything bigger and you need dry, unless your checking account matches Trump's!
