The Army band doesn't deploy much! The Army is the only branch of the service to normally guarantee you a specific job. The others typically guarantee you a field.
To get the job you want in the Army, there are a few things you need to do, first score as high as you can on the ASVAB so you meet the qualifications for any job you might want, then when you go to MEPS to sign up and you sit down with the counselor be adamant about the job you want, if you hear something like it is not available, tell them, politely, that you will just wait for the bus to take you home and walk out, if you meet the mental and physical requirements for the job I can about guarantee you that will get you what you want.
SteveX,
Recruiting is an MOS, 79-V or R (one is recruiting and one is retention can't remember which is which), but you have to be at least an E-4 and have time in service. It can also be an ASI (4) if you are chosen for it and choose not to convert.

The mos I'm in the only place we go to is Korea and that's for the hardship tour. I'm a 14T the 14 series we are all together and there isn't much use for us. Though really think about what you would be getting into before signing. There are hundreds of jobs and you need to find one that fits you, and if you really don't want to deploy than the army isn't for you. There is the never knowing, the only reason I know my unit isn't going anywhere is because we are next to go to Korea. Just really think hard, so you don't regret anything.

The Army is most definitely not the only military unit that promises a job before signing. The Air Force does also, and has lower deployment frequency and length.

That's not the way the Army works. ALL MOS deploy by the very nature of the unit concept/brigade concept in the Army. If this is your thinking, you should not join the Army. And Army is capitalized.

If you feel that way about being deployed, then, don't join.
It'd be a slap in the face to those who have accepted deployment as a part of the job and have done so without complaining.

Yes, you came off sounding like a wuss who wants the benefits but not the responsibility. All Soldiers are deployable. You could be HR, but you might spend your time pulling guard duty at night. Go medical... if that's something you will be happy doing.

I am 68M which is a Nutrition Care specialist. When I signed on they gave me a few different opitions.
One of the options was to be nondeployable for 2 years
the other was nondeployable for 3 years. Obviously the longer you stay on our soil the lower you other benifits would be. I took the other option with 20,000 bonus and some other "stuff"

All members of the Army Band in Washington and the members of the ceremonial fife and drum corps. But, you have to audition to become a member before your enlistment begins. I think that about covers it.
