I just moved in an apartment and the people upstairs have roaches. They are starting to come down to ours. We fogged the house and put out combat roach bait. My son has one in his room and our 12 week old puppy chewed on it. I was wondering if that could hurt him and what I need to do? I of course removed it. I need real answers and stupid comments please!!

If your puppy chewed on roach bait, I would recommend you contact your vet, or an emergency vet clinic ASAP, via phone first, to be on the safe side. See what they recommend and if you end up taking your pup in, remember to take the roach bait with you so they can better know how to treat if treatment is necessary.

Relax, the chemical inside the station should be fipronil. This is the same chemical in Frontline products. Your puppy will not die, but some of the inactive ingredients will probably give him a tummy ache. However, I would call the vet, just to be on the safe side.

The amount of bait inside those stations are very minimal and they are regularly chewed on by dogs and cats. This is why I never use or recommend them.

Here is the link to the MSDS. When you call the vet, you will need this information.

Real answer: Your pup needs vet care right away. The chances he ingested the poisoin are pretty high. The sooner he gets to the vet the better. Bring the package with you when you go.

**At the VERY least you need to contact your vet. I'd hate to have you watch your pup die because you didn't act fast enough. I watched a pup die on the way to the vets after being poisoned from a very small amount of diluted bug bait. In fact since I gave him mouth to snout CPR on the way I was advised to take precautions as well. Its not worth the risk, especially with vets a phone call away.

Stupid comment: Why not just let the puppy eat the roaches it'd be cheaper than dog food. (yes that's a joke, I'm sorry)

I'm pretty sure that one is OK, hold on, I'm checking

Yeah, that one doesn't have enough poison to hurt a dog.

Look here, go to the part where it says:
Toxicology. There is a toxic amount based on a dog's weight.

It's always better to be safe than sorry though. Call a vet for more advise.

Here's the thing... nobody here can tell you if your dog is safe. While the amount of poison may not be enough to hurt the typical dog, what if your pet has an undiagnosed condition? What if your pet has a super-sensitivity to the active ingredients? Our emergency clinic sees case after case of accidental ingestion, and the only way to know if your pet is safe is to have an exam.

Good luck!

I dont think it is harmful unless he actually ate the peices of it. The same thing happened with my friends dog and I called the emergency vet for her.

If it is raid brand he is safe (the vet said that dogs can pass the raid brand thru their system and once it passes it will be ok). The plastic is what you really need to worry about.

Call an emergency vet if he ate any of it. They can tell you better than I can.
