Since some folks seem to think that atheists are just believers who are being naughty rebellious boys and girls, how can I tell if they're right? Is there a test? Is there something that a believer who just pretends to be an atheist would never do? Maybe there's something akin to getting a vampire to hold a crucifix, or something...

I denied the Holy Spirit, lots and lots. I'll mention it next time someone tells me I'm not an atheist, and see what happens.

If we consider ourselves Christians, Jesus only left us with two suggestions for dealing with Atheists.
First He ask us not to judge them.
Secondly He ask us to love our neighbor.
Atheists are our neighbors.

It's a pretty exclusive club, from what I hear. ALMOST as exclusive as the True Christian club.
So let's see, to be a True Atheist:
1. You must never, ever even THINK that there may be a God. If you do, you are not a True Atheist. This can be remedied, however, by reading some Richard Dawkins, or by repeating the mantra "God is imaginary" at least a hundred times. Visiting www.godisimaginary.com can also help.
2. You must have morals. Sorry, that's just the way it is. Only religious people are evil. If you're evil, you must be religious, so you can't be a True Atheist.
3. "Religious people are delusional." Repeat this ad nauseum. If you don't, you're not a True Atheist.
If you fail in any of this, the real True Atheists will take back your special club jacket, and your True Atheist membership card. You will not be refunded the cost of membership.

They will tell you everyone is a 'believer who just doesn't realise it yet' as kind of the last stage of denial that it is possible other people believe different things, but anyway, ignoring that...
Only you can tell whether you are an atheist or not. If you are, when you try and weigh up the facts and ideas infront of you, you'll come to the conclusion that there isn't a god. If you come to the conclusion that there is a god, than you are a believer.

If you don't believe that any gods exist, you're a real atheist.
It probably also means that you don't need a god, book, or list to figure out that lying, stealing, or hurting and killing people are wrong. Eating flesh and drinking blood are Christian rituals - a real atheist would never do something so disgusting.

Most atheists are actually either non-theists (like Buddhists), or functional agnostics: if you think about it, an agnostic is just someone who does not believe there is an imaginary "Daddy" in the sky, but who is willing to change their mind should real evidence arise!

If a scientist injects you with something and puts you back into your cage and you're cool about it, you're an Atheist. Willing to give your meaningless life up for scientific research.
If you have a problem with it you are either a PETAist or a FUNDAMENTALIST.

Do you have the irresistable urge to shoot heroin while having sex with a farm animal? A burning hatred of everyone and everything? An inexplicable craving for puppy meat?

If you believe you are what you "are," then it is settled. But it may be difficult to get the ghost to go away completely on the inside, and so you post here. Your battle has not started yet.
