No, my husband would have a cow. I'd get him a little back pack to carry his things in.

I wouldn't make him feel wrong. I would just say it the right way. For example: you want a back pack to put your toys ? If he insist he wants a purse just tell him mommies have purses and daddies have wallets and kids have pack packs. And proceed with asking what kind of back pack he wants, (spiderman, superman or favorite character) I am almost 100 percent sure he will tell you what kind and when he does go buy it for him. If he said purse Its probobly because he hears you say it all the time. He has not idea until you tell him how it works.

My brother carried his blocks and cars in a purse when he was that age. He is 23 now and has a bunch of tattooes, rides a harley, and is known as a "mr. tough guy". Kids this age are just exploring different gender roles and experimenting with different things. Having something feminine is not going to turn him "gay". Like everyone else said, I would give him one (some type of plain purse/totebag). He will grow out of it in no time.

Take your son to the store and let him pick out a special bag just for him to carry his cars. Take him the backpack section and maybe the purse selction and let him pick out his own bag. I'm sure that as soon as he sees a backpack with a cartoon on it he'll forget all about a purse. =)

yes I would give it to him. 4 yr old son plays with mostly boy toys like cars,trains,trucks...etc. but I also gave him a tea set with pots and pans, He loves it! My husband wasn't crazy about the idea, but I want my son to experience all aspects of life not just the man things.

my little brother for the longest time carried my grandmothers old purse around with cars and what not in it. I dont think its going to damage him if he carries a purse. eventually he'll grow out of it.

I would because a purse doesen't make the person and most people would consider that to be gay but I will love my kids no matter what. He may even see that your purse helps you and it makes sense to him to get one too.

4 year olds do not have any gender identity, they are just a child. They don't understand the concept of girls things and boys things. If it makes him happy go for it. It is not an indication that he will become gay. There are also a lot of 'macho' gay men out there. At four years old he just thinks it would be the appropriate carry item for him, nothing to do with being girly or otherwise to him.

This one made me smile because I have been there. My husband gets all freaked out when his son wants to do something not typically masculine.
Answer this. If your young daughter wanted her own briefcase to put her toy barbies in it, would you give it to her? I would. So why the double standard? I would give my son a purse if he asked. Granted, I would go with a plain one as opposed to one with pink sequins and tassels. (Just as much as I would give a daughter a plain briefcase instead of a black biker one with skulls and booby girls on it.)
:) Preschoolers are not going to become gay just because they played with their opposite gender's typical toys or games. Let him have some fun.
