How can i learn how to do my own taxes instead of having someone else file for me.?

Depending on how difficult your taxes are I would suggest something like turbo tax. But if you are doing it on a 1040EZ form dont waste the money. The book will explain it very well.

Otherwise Turbo Tax is a good program. I personally use it and it does all my forms.

All the local colleges and universities have a free program around tax time. Check your library as well. They have free nights where you take your taxes in and everybody does them at the same time.

For a lot of Americans, they can file their own taxes. Just get the tax forms and the instruction booklets, and go right down the form line by line and fill it out. Look up the particular line in your booklet for more information. Or you can take H and R's tax course or even a college class. There may be free tax services available in your area as well. Doing taxes is not really difficult to do. More people should learn because they make costly errors like not completing their withholdings properly, not using the right filing status, cashing out their retirements plans too early, etc. Good Luck

In general, how an individual prepares their taxes doesn't differ much each year. If you kept your 2006 forms, you could probably do your 2007 by looking at it even if it was done by a professional.

If you have a question, there are a variety of ways to either look up the info or contact IRS.

If they offer it for free, it wouldn't hurt. Honestly, unless you've got so much exemptions and interest stuff, you can follow directions in the book and do it yourself. It's not hard.
