Why don't I just throw my money up in the air and let God take what he wants?

Yeah right - it's not as if 'he' gets any of it in any case.

Tithing is all about giving into the scam; it's all about preachers living high on the hog.
Xianity is the Greatest Sting in all of history; there's good money in religion IF you can keep a straight face.

If you want to get technical, the word "tithing" means literally 10%. Today, though, people do not look at the meaning of the word, but think that a tithe is any offering that you make. I, personally, believe that if I tithe, I give 10% of my earnings to the church -- which means I give it to the Lord.

1. Sometimes, tithes. the tenth part of agricultural produce or personal income set apart as an offering to God or for works of mercy, or the same amount regarded as an obligation or tax for the support of the church, priesthood, or the like.
2. any tax, levy, or the like, esp. of one-tenth.
3. a tenth part or any indefinitely small part of anything.
–verb (used with object)
4. to give or pay a tithe or tenth of (produce, money, etc.).

the new testament nowhere assigns a certain percentage of income to set aside, but only says it is to be “in keeping with his income” [1 corinthians 16:2]. the christian church has essentially taken the 10% figure from the old testament tithe and applied it as a “recommended minimum” for christians in their giving. although the new testament does not identify a specific amount or percentage to give, it does talk about the importance and benefits of giving. they should give as they are able, “in keeping with his income.” sometimes that means giving more than a tithe, sometime that may mean giving less than a tithe. it all depends on the ability of the christian and the needs of the church

each and every christian should diligently pray and seek God’s wisdom as to whether to participate in tithing and/or for how much he or she should give [james 1:5]. “each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” [2 corinthians 9:7].

The meaning of the word tithe is tenth. that is 10%. Pretty simple. And after all, it isn't much to give, especially if you believe God gave you everything. If someone was going to give you $1,000,000 you wouldn't complain at all if they just asked for 100,000 back so they could help other people.

Tithing is 10 % from your first fruits. Offerings are above that. : )

I would suggest. Give 10 % to God, save 10 % and live wisely on 80 %. It is called 10-10-80 plan. : )

The bible says 20%; and 30% every third year. The first 10% is for the Levites. The second 10% you are to bind up in your hand and use it to travel to the Feast of Tabernacles. The third !0% is for the widows and orphans.

In the new covenant of Jesus Christ as a Christian we should give as the Lord lays on our hearts. I once ask a Preacher should I give by my net or by my gross, he said which do you want blessed by, net or gross. Very interesting. One thing I have learned though in 30 years as a Christian, if you are not giving enough, the Lord has ways of showing you like the old car always needing repairs or the tv or frig or stove or well you get the picture. I try to give every month till it makes a difference in the way I live. Then I know that I am giving. Great question

The Bible says God only ask for 10%. He could have ask for 90. So why are you grumbling about it for? Don't you think being saved from a burning torment in the fiery pits of hell is worth 10%? Don't you even relize what Jesus done for you, is that not worth 10%. I think it is worth the 90%, myself. Plus, the more you give, the more the Word of God can be shared. If you give grudgeingly, then you may as well keep it in your pocket, God won't honor it.

I've heard that it's 10% of your monthly income but some people such as myself cannot afford that.
So as a result we hardly ever go to church because we don't have any money to tithe with.
If we weren't expected to give a certain amount of money every time we went to church we would go every week but because we don't have any money to give let alone what they expect of us we hardly ever go at all.
So instead we stay home and study the bible and praise God ourselves.
