how come they keep giving us thumbs down, answer with pejorative epithets and won't just accept the fact that faith comes from intellectual knowledge?

Yes, you are right. I should say faith comes from intuition, sixth sense and perception beyond the knowable... They don't have that, because they insist on staying stuck in what is reasonable. They need to "see" to believe, while us (the others) don't need to see... we just know. We are probably older spirits and we bring knowledge with us from past lives. They are newer spirits starting to walk. Don't worry, they will get there after several existences.

Peace!

Perhaps you have a different definition of the word "faith" than I do. In my experience, faith is belief without evidence. This is the exact opposite of intellectualism, which relies on gathering and interpreting evidence in order to form knowledge.

"Faith comes from intellectual knowledge"?

That doesn't mean anything.

Now, I'm fine with faith - if the believers accepted that their beliefs are based in faith, we'd have only a tiny fraction of the fighting we have here. But the vast majority of believers insist that they have evidence, or even proof of their beliefs. Of course that contradicts the claim to have belief based in faith, and removes faith from having any role in religious belief.

Worse, the motivation for claiming to have evidence or proof seems to be in order to justify imposing one's beliefs on others. If you admit that your beliefs are based in faith, you don't have any warrant to expect anyone else to share those beliefs - it takes evidence to provide that kind of warrant. That should be fine for people who truly believe because they want a relationship with God, but it seems that most believers don't want that - they want a bludgeon with which to strike their enemies here on Earth, and believe that falsely claiming to have evidence will give them such a weapon.

Our knowledge comes from our faith. It is interesting though that only the Jews and Christians have been persecuted so much for so long. What has happened is that Christianity spreads more and more. The evil one can not trample it out. Because he has no power to do so.

You have to realize that most of the atheists around here are not intellectuals. They're bumper sticker atheists. They can spout a few slogans, and they're witty in their insults, but they're not well read, and they haven't thought carefully about the issues.

But that's not to say all atheists are that way. There are plenty of intelligent well-read atheists out there. They just don't seem to hang out that much on yahoo answers.

Because they've never provided the 'intellectual knowledge' that supposedly convinces hem of their religious beliefs.

can you cite an example of said intellectual knowledge? Most of the basis of faith, I find is more rooted in conjecture.
