At the link below you will see a picture of a 1947 RCA projection TV. These were not very popular. Projection TVs were reintroduced in the 1970s when improvements in technology allowed for brighter sharper images that were now in color rather than circa 1947 black & white.

Not too old today. Probably invented a few years ago.
