This seems to happen more at night and is very sharp and short. Seems worse if I have had an alcholic drink. Any ideas of what this could be ?

Sounds like neuralgia to me. I've given you a linl so you can check the dymptoms against your pain.

You have a tooth , could be cracked , if you have broken any nuts with your teeth , woops ,,, cracked teeth cant be fixed ,, they have to be pulled , it could be an absess they can fix that ,, better get it done though , it will get worse
